Since we've gotten told to stop talking generally about religion twice in the Homosexuality and Religion thread and were told that, if we want to talk generally about religion, we need to make a new thread, I have made a new thread.
Full disclosure: I am an agnostic atheist and anti-theist, but I'm very interested in theology and religion.
Mod Edit: All right, there are a couple of ground rules here:
- This is not a thread for mindless bashing of religion or of atheism/agnosticism etc. All view points are welcome here. Let's have a civil debate.
- Religion is a volatile subject. Please don't post here if you can't manage a civil discussion with viewpoints you disagree with. There will be no tolerance for people who can't keep the tone light hearted.
- There is no one true answer for this thread. Don't try to force out opposing voices.

Yay for transhumanism, or do you mean improbable.
Unprovable is the word. Chrome's spellchecker doesn't like it, though. Anyway, all that the idea of theistic evolution does is move the goalposts a bit. "We can't find God in the physical world so we'll just put him in this other space that you scientists can't touch, nyah nyah."

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Non-falsifiable, I think he meant to say.
Transhumanism is quite spiritual when you think about it.

Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleThe word is now uninniprovable and it is now a real word because fuck you I just made it up, deal with it you goddamn nerds >:V
TBH I do like Fighteer's image of "We are moving it where you cannot touch it, neener neener"
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesGod in the gaps?
God of the Gaps. His portfolio keeps shrinking.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Would it not be ironic if the god of Abercrombie & Fitch was a hobo
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesExcept on the Stockholms tunnelbana?
Keep Rolling On?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.As it is known on the London Underground; "Mind The Gap".

Keep Rolling OnTHAT MADDENING SOUND.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes... We don't have a gap here. At least, not enough of one that it needs warning. Blame Scandinavian design.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.To be honest after a while you barely notice it.
We actually talked about fixism in Biology class, this year even. The teacher was mostly talking about how evolution isn't a matter of religion, but of science. That was basically his introduction to the subject. Then, we went to talk about Lamarckism, Darwinism and the modern evolutionary synthesis.
I know we've already studied this more "deeply" a few years ago (I can't remember if it was in high school or not, so as deep as someone in that grade would study it). Still, even if the teacher himself didn't spend too much time in it (which is amusing because he managed to teach the curriculum almost a whole month before the schedule), our book and the slideshow presentations he used had a lot of interesting stuff. I still wish we could talk about stuff like, how your upbringing and the environment can have an effect on your children before they are born, or maybe even memetics. But just like quantum physics that's not high school level
Now, ahem, back to the subject of the thread. I've never had Religious Studies class. Other than... catholic catechism(?).
My views basically amount to theistic evolution, albeit in a complicated Hindu way. In addition, I see most mainstream creation stories as metaphors for the Big Bang.

"Sorry dinos, I got some rat things I need to evolve sapience a few million years from now and they ain't gonna do that with you in the way."
"Don't worry, some of you guys will still be around as feathered balls of meat that will be cut up and ate once a year."
"I'll make one of your descendants the mascot for one third of me. Holy Spirit, you're up for that, right?"
Anybody have a idea, what kind of kami they'll turn into when the die yet? Plenty of things to add to your portfolio!
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleI would walk to Kumbakharna, Morpheus and the hellish personification of Sloth itself to say "MOVE, BITCH. THE REAL SLEEP KING IS H..." and then I would fall asleep forever.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes
That does raise the question how different gods see their roles. I mean do you think a god of poverty likes being itself?
I'd like to keep Izanami company. Even creepy corpse ladies need a tea time.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleDepends on if yo usee gods as basically humans with superpowers in which case I doubt they like their situation, or above those moral concepts. Instead of being humans with powers, they just are, and do not dwell or cannot dwell in their misery perceived or otherwise.
Depens basically on if they are capable of feeling.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesApparently, this is a thing. Its based on some legend about vagina dentata
Means Evolution happened exactly as scientists say but God set it in motion and planned it.
Which is sort of a dick move theorethically wise because it is something that is improvable.
