Since we've gotten told to stop talking generally about religion twice in the Homosexuality and Religion thread and were told that, if we want to talk generally about religion, we need to make a new thread, I have made a new thread.
Full disclosure: I am an agnostic atheist and anti-theist, but I'm very interested in theology and religion.
Mod Edit: All right, there are a couple of ground rules here:
- This is not a thread for mindless bashing of religion or of atheism/agnosticism etc. All view points are welcome here. Let's have a civil debate.
- Religion is a volatile subject. Please don't post here if you can't manage a civil discussion with viewpoints you disagree with. There will be no tolerance for people who can't keep the tone light hearted.
- There is no one true answer for this thread. Don't try to force out opposing voices.

Huh, that's odd. That's not something your average Catholic in the communities I'm familiar with would ever want or need. You only use them if you're taking communion to sick people who can't get to mass, and the parish seems to supply them in that case. I could be wrong though; it's not something I've ever looked into.
Be not afraid...The parish generally doesn't supply them in my experience, and there are a lot of people who volunteer to take communion to the ill. They all generally have their own pyx. Often people with sick relatives will own one as well to take communion home to them.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickYeah in most small towns and above the church will deliver communion themselves, but our last pastor has been...willfully obstructive about it regarding the local VA and I can see the need for others to do it.

Ah, I see.
Be not afraid...I like this pope. He isn't just talking harsh, he's been firing or demoting people for abuse of resources and other problems. I'm hoping that he can sustain these changes as well. His engagement with the little people and common followers should help encourage that.
"Psssh. Even if you could catch a miracle on a picture any person would probably delete it to make space for more porn." - AszurFrancis sounds like precisely what the Catholic Church needed. I really hope his reforms stick. I don't believe in what he believes, but a lot of people do, and a lot of the problems I have with the Church have nothing to do with the religion and everything to do with how its followers behave.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Thanks everyone for helping figure out what a Pyx was. Now I just need to go and get one during this last minute holiday rush...
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."I'm not sure you can just go out an buy a Pyx. I mean I'm sure you can just hop on Ebay or something but it's probably not considered kosher because it's used for a very tightly-regulated sacrament. It'd be safest to consult your pastor.
They sell them at all sorts of Catholic shops. I've seen dozens of places just selling them. That link I gave earlier was a link to an online store selling them. It's a bit like buying your own rosary. Generally, you ask the priest to bless it before you use it though.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickFair enough. Shows how long it's been since I've been in a Catholic shop, I guess. We have a grand total of one around here and it's...more of the crazy sort.

i have now heard Weird Al's "the night Santa went crazy"
it was awesome
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistI don't think I've even seen a Catholic shop before. What does that even entail? Selling rosary beads and crucifixes?
And terrible novels and movies. Pretty much.
Why is Jack Chick paranoid of globalism? It certainly cant be because it disenfranchises people in third world countries while benefiting large corporations, which is the most common criticism of it
Because the particular brand of Evangelical Protestantism that he belongs to have linked globalism (and whatever other bugbear de jure) to an eschatlogical (studies of end of the world) reading of the Book of Revelations.
How that happened? Beats me.
Because the world is full of foreigners, Mooslums, and blacks.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiAnd because Globalism is "Socialist"?
Keep Rolling OnFucking Left Behind ruins everything. Anyone see the nic cage one yet? I didn't even realize it was out until someone mentioned it today.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?First I heard of it. Seems the critics are panning it (not surprisingly).
-Christianity Today
Yeah, it's even getting panned by Christian movie makers and critics, and you know how low their standards are. I'm pretty sure the only one who came out ahead on that one was Nic Cage, seeing how he probably walked away with most of the movie's budget. Chances are he'll spend it better than whatever crazy megachurch thought this was necessary to make.

Nick Cage turning down a role, now that would be a sign of the apocalypse.
As would him acting it well [kish!]
Sorry, had to.
I don't think Left Behind has a bad concept for a story, besides the sickening prejudice (haven't read it or watched it though). It's just people taking it as reality is a problem. Why it's influenced actual religious beliefs, I dunno.
Your mother wants a Pyx. It's for carrying communion wafers in.
