I have more experience with Indiegogo than I do with Kickstarter, but all of these group funding sites have a Report Suspicious Activity button, usually at the bottom of the page. It would be much more effective to do that on Kickstarter rather than having this conversation here.

It really says wonders about this woman when she has so much money and yet still feels the need to do stuff like this. But hey, at least a couple of others have noticed this and are calling it out for what it is.

Side Note: Someone should start a blog called "Suspicious Kickstarter" or something like that, in a format similar to Regretsy in which suspicious-looking Kickstarter projects are highlighted and mocked.

Just took a look at Regretsy and I find it said that I can never find anything that funny on Craigslist. All I can find is an endless onslaught of crap I don't want and/or fat chicks. But I digress.

I hope Kickstarter doesn't let this slide just so they can have their cut.

Any of you see that one Kickstarter that hasn't been finished because apparently the creator swears up and down that she is being threatened by the sun (the big glowy thing in the sky, just FYI) to not make it?

First thing that came up. Also, I remember an image of some guy on /v/ making an account called THE SUN and messing with her as well.

[up]I'm more saddened by the fact that these people seem to be mocking someone who is very clearly mentally ill than I am sad that people supposedly got scammed. Seriously. People. You don't mock or mess with someone like this. That's just dickish.

Since this is the internet though, it is possible that the creator could be just faking it so as to keep the money.

judging by the history of her posts..Neogaf seems to be concluding this is less a troll (the second girl, this is) and more someone going slowly but surely into the deptsh of mental illness (as posts from a few years back are quite coherent..the n start slowly slipping into wtf)with not a single one of her facebook friends or anything lifting a single finger to save her from herself.

That's rather depressing.

I'm not exactly qualified (yet) to diagnose, but if all of this is legit, she seems to be exhibiting symptoms of schizophrenia, which, left unchecked, is a pretty big danger to herself. The way it appears that nobody seems to care or to want to help just makes it even worse.

Its probably more a case of everyone assuming someone else will handle it.

Shame. I didn't know the person was legitimately schizo. My aunt has that, so I know what it does to people.

Technically doesn't everyone here also count for bystander effect as we assume that as people who don't know the person in question should be helped by someone that person knows? tongue Aka, nobody here dares to do anything about it.

Is there anything we can do to start with? We really don't know her, (I haven't actually read any of the sites posted so forgive me if I'm wrong) we don't know where she lives, and probably don't really know how to contact her. Certainly don't know how to contact people she knows. WE don't have an avenue to do anything.

If we try to intervene in the life of a person who is (on the surface) clearly self-destructing and is seemingly unwilling to ask for help (or is unconcerned with it), wouldn't that be a violation of their privacy and freedom of action?

It would be but that doesn't make it illegal. Just not a very good idea.

I would like to remind those of you who think that there should be some sort of intervention, that not only do our forum rules prohibiting importing drama from somewhere else to here, they also prohibit exporting it. Co-ordinating an intervention on Kickstarter from these forums would constitute exporting drama, and would result in banning.

If you have concerns, follow blackcat's advice and use the means provided by Kickstarter.

I was honestly trying to discourage it. There ISN'T anything we can do, and even if there was, it would be absolutely stupid for us, who DON'T know the person to begin with, to even touch the topic. One would think some of those Facebook buddies would know said person in the physical world and be able to see what was going on. They'd be in a far better position than the rest of us.

And no one should be diagnosing this as schizophrenia. Doesn't matter what it looks like, it's against medical ethics to diagnose someone at all unless you've been in a face to face session with them. For all you know the person's a very good writer who went through a textbook and learned how to mimic the signs of schizophrenia.

[up][up] i think you may be confusing two different tooics here. The first is the suspicious kickstarter, which I and probably others too have already reported using the kickstarter option to do so; the second topic was of a different kickstarter which was not completed after funding because the project creator had apparently developed some sort of mental illness and nobody was visibly supporting him/her.

[up][up]Well, no one was actually diagnosing. I was just making an educated guess, that I clearly said was not an actual diagnosis...

Also, what would be the point of faking it? Münchausen by Internet does not usually work out well for any of the parties involved.

...anyway, is there anything left to say about the actual thread topic? We got way off topic here (myself especially).

She raised over 21000 bucks. Also, there apparently is a camp for teaching kids to make games with RPG Maker Ace.
