Hey, does anyone know when the soundtrack for Volume 5 comes out?

Now, about moving the story tropes out of the character pages, shall we put it in a Trope Repair Shop discussion if it's necessary? Just asking.

That's not what TRS is for. Short-Term projects would be far more appropriate.

ok, so i finally just binged the last season.

sigh. while the overall plot seems to be moving along quite nicely, I really have to wonder about the direction and writing. I'm enjoying the overarching plot but moment-to-moment bits just leave me kinda disappointed.

So, so, so many times we see long pauses and delays in what's supposed to be a tense action scene. We have characters that can supposedly fight faster than the eye can see, and then take 10 seconds to react to some dudes trying to kill their family/friends. Or how everyone always just... conveniently forgets to fight and lets everyone assemble into picturesque lineups in the middle of battle.

Like, we have 2 dudes trying to take on Blake's dad, and he's handling it fairly well. Blake freezes them in place, DOESN'T take them out, Sun helps out... and they still can't take them down. They're demonstrably poor fighters, but Sun is apparently... just of no help at all?

As for the writing... i mean, I'm not sure if it was supposed to be funny, but moments like Weiss nearly dying, Jaune says "Say something!" and Ren just says, "This is bad." uh.... are they trying to ruin a tense moment, or did Ren's IQ just drop 50 points? Then a little later, while Jaune is healing Weiss... Ruby stops him and lifts his hands out of the way, then says "don't stop!" WTF.

There are just moments like that sprinkled throughout the whole season, it really seems like they wanted to sprinkle in one-liners and "moments" with no regard to how it'll fit with the story/flow of the scene itself, lending to awkward and inconsistent bits all over the place. Most of these things are bits that could have been corrected and polished away with a second glance, but it really seems like that final step was missing.

And the last thing... i miss Monty's choreography. The fights were "epic" but not particularly choreographed... basically masking the lack of intricate movement with the "blur, flash of light here, flash of light there" technique of showing an intense battle.

I was originally drawn to RWBY because of Monty's fight scenes and the worldbuilding, but half of that is starting to fade away. In the last season, they already started contradicting themselves with regards to worldbuilding, so I really hope they have a solid foundation to plan the story ahead...

I'm considering sending Ilia's character folder back to the White Fang page, because many tropers can't seem to wrap their head around the fact there should be no spoilers above the trope listing. The very fact that someone put Ilia in the Friends and Allies section while retaining her White Fang descriptor, already defeats the purpose of even putting spoiler tags on her.

Make up your minds, for Port's sake!

I think Volume 6 is going to regain this show's good will.

That, or it's going to be garbage and we're going to torch whatever RWBY paraphenelia we might be hiding under our beds.

Wouldn't be the first show that made a fandom want to set their stuff on fire.

Other examples I have heard of being Bleach, Naruto and Love Live.

On the Creatures of Grimm page, someone has changed the folder name of the Sea Dragon Grimm to Sea Feilong. Is that CRWBY's official name for the creature? If it is, that's fine. If it's not, I'll change the folder name back.

I agree on the Ilia issue, by the way. That change was made the same day the episode came out for sponsors, which meant the episode hadn't even been released to the free account holders, let alone the general public. Despite that change, she remained White Fang specific until the final episode. Even then, it would only really make sense for her to be on the Friends and Allies page if she travels with them to Atlas as a full companion (which she might given that she's as tied to Atlas as Weiss). There's a reason why Qrow is on that page, but Taiyang, Glynda, Oobleck and Port are not.

Speaking of the Friends and Allies page, weren't we going to move Team CFVY to the Kingdoms page, and all of Team SSSN except for Sun? Even though we don't seem to have come to a decision about splitting up the Kingdom page, we can at least move those two groups back to the Kingdoms page in the meantime. Also, what about Blake's parents? I think they were moved across when Ilia was, but really they've only been involved in the White Fang sub-plot, so I'm thinking they need to be under the Menagerie section on the Kingdoms page.

While the volume was airing, I asked about whether it would be worth finding out on ATT whether or not we should consider a rule for RWBY along the lines of the two-week rule for troping new films on this wiki. Except that it wouldn't be two weeks, it would just be waiting until it was available to more than just paying sponsors (given that it defeats the object of there being paying sponsors). That could be when it's released on You Tube a week later, or when it's released to anyone who is willing to make a free account.

My thought at the time was that if this is agreed (and only if it's agreed) to just put a commented-out note at the top of the page asking people to respect the staggered release of the show and not to trope until it's available to non-sponsors. If people ignore the tag, we can just send them the "ignored commented out warning" message, which is an easier solution than trying to actively police people troping too early (which wouldn't be feasible).

I didn't go ahead and ask because I thought I'd wait until the end of the volume and ask before V6 gets off the ground. But then we had the Ilia issue, which almost made me raise the subject again because that was a major act during a time when only sponsors were allowed to watch the show. Then I noticed that, during V5, people were creating Recap pages during the sponsor-only period but commenting out all the tropes because it was still in the sponsor-only period and therefore effectively creating blank pages that would sit there for several days until the show became public.

I didn't see this sort of thing happening in earlier volumes. Anyway, I was thinking of asking about whether or not this is possible or even feasible. What do people think?

iirc the two weeks rule is a CM thing. A work page is free game for troping once it hits the wild.

Plus enforcing it would be a pain.

Since there are some answers on ATT about adding recap page notifications, should we just simply remove it from the RWBY main page?

I'm still a little concerned that duplicate entries on various pages, including the main work pages, may take up too much space.

Someone's put a long entry they found on the Chris Carter Effect page onto the RWBY YMMV Discussion Page, asking if the example should be crosswicked to the YMMV or deleted outright.

I've given my own thoughts on the discussion page, but it could use more voices.

Discussion is here.

I agree with everything you've said Wyld, except maybe the bit about her eyes (since it's an aberration in the power system and despite two seasons having passed we've had absolutely zero explanation. Imagine two seasons of DBZ passing after the end of the Freeza saga and Super Saiyan not being addressed).

But yes, I broadly agree. At the very least it should be trimmed down to just the eyes.

Well, I still think the complaint about her eyes falls more under the Villains Act, Heroes React trope.

Aside from that Chris Carter Effect discussion, the creators did say they'd taken on board the complaint that Ruby's far too passive, just lets things happen and doesn't seem interested in her power, so hopefully we get some movement on that. The protagonists finally have a reason to know that Ruby's supposedly Grimm-only power works on Cinder, and now that they've seen Salem looks like a Grimm the obvious question for someone to ask Ozpin is... will her eyes work on Salem? (I do personally believe that's the source of Ozpin's interest in her - he knows her silver eyes are the key to defeating Salem.)

Of course, if V6 goes by without at least some movement on Ruby's eyes, I'll probably join the list of complaining. Until now, I've felt it's been fair enough given the situation RNJR was in (no access to Qrow for most of it, no access to Ozpin until V5, and labouring under the assumption that it's a Grimm-specific power which should logically lead to the conclusion that it bears no immediate relevance to human (and faunus) villains). Now that the kids know it works on Cinder, have seen Salem, and have access to Ozpin, there are no excuses any more.

Digging through the Audience Reaction index right now to see if any of those criticisms can be moved to a more appropriate trope.

Unrelated, but something to note is that Fight Scene Failure is a thing.

I do also think that the Silver Eyes is something that needs to stay. I've talked with people on reddit a lot regarding the silver eyes, and many people agree that it isn't a well explored plot point and getting tired of waiting (as in, Volume 5 presents the perfect opportunity to explain it, sicne Ruby and Ozpin were just pacing around the house, but neither does he explains, nor does she asks about it).

Yep. I mean, I'm still of the opinion that the actual power sucks (it's just Turn Grimm) but what was even worse is that there was a damn training arc where they don't address it at all.

Though that training arc is a waste for everyone since no one becomes more competent as a result and Jaune learns his power in a moment of crisis anyway.

One scene doesn't really count as an arc. Their worthless training was largely offscreen.

Worthless indeed. Off-screen training is literally the easiest way to add in combat development. It practically writes itself. How'd they screw that up?
