They are stretching it another week, even though it's obvious now that Takumi will win? Someone shoot me please.

Also, some of those lines Takumi spouted sounded just weird...

Well, I suppose this fits in well with overcoming limits and poetic justice and all that.

A single dish that serves as two courses. Interesting.

I have to say, even if he recovers from being a memetic loser, I think the real Takumi is basically dead at this point. He stopped being a dork over 150 chapters ago, now he's turning into Subaru?

[up][up][up] I dunno, the fact that he's intentionally making a Call-Back to how Subaru was acting matches up to how much of a try-hard he still is.

Fight fire with fire seems something he'd do when he feels vindictive. Like his response to Somas taunt at the begining was to try to hurt his foot on purpose before quickly revealing he's a dork when they tie.

If you take away his joke status, Takumi is just a generic "rival" character he posed as... which was the joke

At least dork Takumi had a fun quirk. I m totally uninterested in generic rival Takumi.

Takumi has been acting more like a friend than rival for awhile. Knowing him he'll devolve into dorkiness when the next breather chapters finally come.

There was even that OVA where he got lost in the woods hunting for Soma, Kurokiba, and Spices whose name I forgot.

I've said this before, but I think a lot of people confused "being a character with a joke attached to them" with "being a joke character". Which honestly just seems to be more on them for coming to premature judgements, than the author coming out of left field with anything, to me.

To be fair, Takumi didn't do much aside from that have that joke labelled to him, so it's not completely our fault.

But yea, putting his entire worth as a character into that joke is overdoing it I think though. Its like, it's one thing not to care much about him, but it's another to think he was only ever a worthwhile character when he was a walking punchline and that he's boring whenever he's not.

That's probably not how Arha or Shulgo actually feel, but it's what it comes off as to me.

Nah man, I literally couldn't care less about Takumi as a serious character. And that's because he has no serious character qualities that I find interesting, just a generic rival character obsessing about trying to catch up to Souma.

Takumi was a spoof of the shonen rival archetype, that was his thing. And if you take the "parody" part from a parody of a generic character you just end up with a generic character.

It's weird, because this series already has much better rival characters for Souma, ones who are much more rounded up, and not just defined by their rivalry and obsession of playing catch up, so I have no idea why they are pushing Takumi so hard.

I mean, that description still sounds pretty exaggerated to me.

And I don't really think Hayama or Kurokiba are particularly more well rounded than Takumi as a character. You may find them more entertaining, which is your prerogative, but I can't see much that actually makes them deeper or anything.

Takumi's way more popular than Kurokiba and Hayama. Plus, Kurokiba is only entertaining as a sidekick to Alice and Hayama can get very tiresome in his more edgelordy moments.

[up]And I agree, you may not find his backstory or drives more interesting than theirs but he has them as much as the other two.

No, it's accurate and restrained. I could go much further if I wanted to exaggerate things.

And as for you not seeing how Kurokiba and Akira are not as generic and one note as Takumi, it honestly just seems to be more on you for not paying attention.

[up]I'm sorry that your interpretation of Takumi as a joke was wrong and that he's currently more important and popular than your preferred characters, but there's no need to be an ass about it.

Honestly, of the three Kurokiba seems the most one-note to me, and that's in a story were frankly most of the characters aren't really that deep.

Maybe that'll change when we find out why he was apparently living in that restaurant with no parents at five, but for now he doesn't have much going for him in depth. Note, I think he's the most entertaining of the three, but also the most shallow.

Takumi's problem is that he's overshadowed in terms of credibility and personality. There's nothing to do but ride it out.

It's funny we're arguing about him as a rival when he's an ally this bout lol.

But yea, [up] is a good description. He simply has nothing that really makes him standout compared to everyone. You can argue that Ryou and Hayama are one note as well, but the series always made sure they felt like actual threats,.

That said, I thought Takumi was pretty cool this chapter...even if he had to bite off some of Subaru's style a bit.

Yeah. This was a good moment for him.

Though with how determined people are to treat him as a total joke (and with how he's mocked for trying to be the rival so often, they have good reason), everyone will probably choose to forget this so they can go back to making fun of him.

The thing is I feel like this only keeps coming up because a couple of people are determined to keep bringing it up.

This is less about wanting anyone to like Takumi, and more just getting over how the story isn't reinforcing certain perceptions of the character.

But, yeah, the talk of him as a rival doesn't really even make sense anymore. It barely makes sense with Hayama or Kurokiba at this point. I think the story has moved on from that, at least for now.

It was a particularly heated debate around the Autumn Elections when Takumi was out in the Quarter Finals while Hayama and Ryou made it to the finals.
