I disagree with the story. No, I don't think that The Third had a good story. But I don't think that 2 had one either. It's like Far Cry 3, I literally don't see a reason to give a shit about the story or the characters. Names like Johnny Gat or Shaundie didn't ring a bell when I started The Third, because I completely forgot about them (I actually wonder why I still remember them now).
That reminds me that I don't have 2 anymore, since I "pawned it off". Not sure why, actually (aside from the obvious, "there was a game I wanted"). Maybe I can still get an uncensored version from Austria.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.I enjoyed 3 immensely. I'd like to try 2, but I don't have a PS 3, and the PC version is so horribly ported that I've never been able to get anywhere with it despite having all of the right requirements.
There's a mod for the PC version of Saint's Row 2 that fixes up a lot of the port's problems as well as adding in a lot of other stuff. It's called Gentlemen of the Row and can be found here: http://idolninja.com/sr2.php
I tried it. It doesn't seem to work for me. I still get frame rates in the single digits at the lowest graphical settings.
What are your specs, exactly?
1 was kinda easy so long as you buy a fast car. The second had a better plot than the first. And the third was just "Let's bomb everything" in a nutshell.
Being an optimist is not as fun as it goes.Goddammit, not everything has to be a military sci-fi shooter.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult....Where are you getting the "military" from this?

Donate money to Skullgirls, get a sweet poster.Well, not military, more like space marine-y. The point is it is way too science fiction-y, when it is supposed to be over the top gangster-y.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult. We jumped that hoop in 3, dude.
Donate money to Skullgirls, get a sweet poster. It was somewhat. This just looks like its trying to the tough space marine liking crowd.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Pretty sure that this particular crowd doesn't like dongs shoved in their faces.
Donate money to Skullgirls, get a sweet poster.Feels more like its try to appeal to the family guy crowd that just loves random nonsensical 'comedy'
I'd bet 20 bucks we're going to see Gangnam Style or Harlem Shake in this.

Okay, Thorn, Seriouslhy.
You say you don't like gritty games anymore, but when one that is comical shows up you can't like it either.
Can you make up your mind and stop being so negative and bitter all the time? It's getting old, and I see it everywhere.
And what if it does have either of those? Is it wrong to like them now or put them in other media, because you say so?

Watch SymphogearSaints Row 2 struck the right balance between crime drama and lighthearted fun and there was a surprisingly interesting storyline about the Saints becoming what they were supposed to end.
Now I thought Saints Row 3 had similarly (still surprisingly) interesting storylines underlying it (the Saints selling out vs going even further down the slippery slope) but it cut down on way too many things. The story was too short and uninteresting, the sandbox city was pretty samey with nowhere near as many secret areas, the gangs weren't nearly as fleshed out and the outfits and customisation were significantly cut down and even cut apart for item pack DL Cs (seriously, the bowler hat is dlc? Fuck you THQ).
Most of that was the limitations of the new engine and SR 4 looking exactly the same as SR 3 and originally being an expansion pack doesn't really do much to remove those concerns.
Wow, a lot of negativity on this thread.
I personally wasn't that excited for Saint's Row 4 before now. But then they went and added superpowers. Now, I absolutely am getting this game. This has the potential to be the ultimate Super Villain simulator.

I don't have a problem with silliness. The problem is in 3 its just too much and it loses any sense of humor. It was a parody of the humor of 2. There was still some ground into reality in 2 which made the characters likeable and cared about (Carlos). And it made the really absurd parts like the cops parody even funnier. When an ENTIRE GAME is basically completely and totally absurd like they took a whiteboard list of "Things that are silly" it loses its effectiveness. It was too much.
An Open World Super Hero/Villain game would be AMAZING...if it wasn't a Saints Row 3 DLC being touted as a full game.

Looks at thread title, goes "hell yah!"
Game is a week one purchase unless the price is stupidly high. Unlike GTA V, which the more po-faced posters in the thread should go and play instead.
I actually couldn't stand how serious GTA IV was. SR 3 was too far into the silly spectrum, GTA IV was too far into the serious spectrum. SR 2 and San Andreas/Vice City hit a good medium.
I just think you can be fun without having to become a shallow parody of your comedy. "LOL HE HIT HIM WITH A DILDO XD"

San Andreas had a three foot long purple dildo melee weapon in the showers in the main police station in Los Santos. I should know, I had the game in two different versions (pre- and post-Hot Coffee scandal) on multiple formats.
So, any claim that Saints Row the Third came up with the three foot long purple dildo melee weapon thing are a bit off, considering my C.J. had one around nine years ago.
Did not know that. Thats stupid then. Vice City was my favorite GTA anyway. But some silly isn't bad.
Its just, when EVERYTHING is super silly, it loses its effectiveness. I no longer cared about a single character from 3 when Gat bit the dust.

Though I found parts of the gameplay immensely frustrating, I appreciated GTA IV (and its DLC) because for the most part it had the seriousness that Saints Row The Third lacked. Maybe a little too much so, but I appreciated it. GTA IV also does have some humor in it, though it's of the dark variety.
My problem with Saints Row The Third was an almost complete lack of pathos. It was only in the "Kill Killbane" ending that I felt some of the spirit from the previous game return.
Yeah, wasn't The Boss some sort of sociopath in 2? What happened?
I almost felt like I was instead playing some interactive version of the movie they were making where they white wash everything.
Not gonna accept that from one who "didn't get far into it".
Fair enough. I need to get back to 2. I got to recruiting Rodriguez's character and then........some stuff after that.
I'm just saying I like 3.
