Big Sunn O))) fan here too, although I don't know much more bands in the genre. Earth and a couple of others in the Southern Lord family but that's about it.
But yeah Sunn O))), totally : White2, ØØ Void, Monoliths & Dimensions... The band has so many excellent records it's hard to pick just one favorite album. I've never seen them live though, but I know their performances are infamous for being quite ... extreme :)
If you have any recommendations though I'm all ears, always love to discover new music.
You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door. There is a small mailbox here.KHANATE. 'Nuff said.
Can't think of much modern metal I utterly despise more than drone doom (Sunn O))), Khanate, Earth, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine etc) except maybe the indie/post-rock/shoegaze influenced stuff but I can enjoy something like dISEMBOWELMENT which served as an inspiration for it. I tend to lean more towards traditional doom personally. Stoner, gothic, funeral, "psychedelic", melo-death, and other such modern variants I don't bother with save for a select few exceptions. I lean more towards Saint Vitus, Revelation (Maryland), Candlemass, Doomsword, Dantesco, Litany (Grc), Forsaken (Mlt), Pagan Altar, Dawn of Winter (Ger), and Blood Farmers personally.

dronepeanut-dead dronepeanut2-zombie levalId recommend Morne and Omega Massif.
Huge Doom fan myself, I love everything from Vitus to MDB to Earth. I'm really digging Mournful Congregation right now
Doom Metal is great, I like most of it personally, though I prefer Traditional (Vitus, The Obsessed, Trouble, Pagan Altar, Witchfinder General), Epic (Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Count Raven), Stoner (Kyuss, Sleep, Monster Magnet, Electric Wizard, QOTSA, Fu Manchu, etc.), Death/Doom (MDB, Paradise Lost, Anathema, Winter, dISEMBOWELMENT, November's Doom) and Funeral (Shape of Despair, Funeral, Evoken, Thergothon, Mournful Congregation) Doom Metal. I also like some of the older Sludge Metal bands (Crowbar, Eyehategod, Fudge Tunnel) and some of the newer bands that play that style.
I have nothing against Post-Metal, but I don't classify it as Doom Metal. It's a separate category, IMO.
