Alrighty! Here's my first character:

Name: Adagio E. Morendo

Sex: Male

Age: 76

Appearance: Damn! Santa Claus has mad piano skillz!!!

Magic: Adagio focuses on magic affecting sound, from brain-scrambling screeches to low tremors that make walls crumble. Unfortunately due to his health, he cannot use nearly as many spells as the more vivacious sorcerers, so he throws all he can into a few spells a day.

Weapon: Unlike many sorcerers who employ wands, staffs, or vocal spells to use their magic, Adagio prefers musical instruments. As a master of many instruments including the violin, piano, flute, trumpet, and organ, Adagio has learned that various instruments have a various range of spells available depending on their musical range. The flute and trumpet give the most limited range of spells (aside from his own singing voice) because they can only play one note at a time, while the violin gives him a more comfortable range to choose from. The piano gives him an even wider range thanks to its ability to strike chords, and the organ adds even more power with its incredible strength and complexity. Armed with only his voice, Adagio can paralyze attackers with piercing screeches, but at the seat of an organ, he could topple buildings. When the Sorcerer's Stronghold was attacked, Adagio only had his violin with him.

History: Ever since he could bang two sticks together, Adagio has known he was born to play music. Growing up in one of Elsira's oldest and most respected households, the young Adagio had every resource available to pursue his dream of becoming the greatest composer in the kingdom. At the age of six, he performed for the King and Queen (two generations before the present ones) for the first time, yet it was destined not to be the last. Throughout his musical career, Maestro Morendo composed over three hundred different pieces, including eight symphonies, twelve requiems, and three operas. In all accounts, Adagio E. Morendo was a musical genius.

And yet one fine day about a year ago, Adagio decided to leave his luxurious estate behind and follow the mysterious Simon. Seldom anyone knew he had left, and those close friends who did thankfully kept their mouths shut. Adagio was quite old when he heard Simon's call; he was remarkably overweight and was unhealthily fond of wine and cigars.

EDIT: But despite his old age and (arguably failing) health, Maestro Morendo proved to be a fast learner when it came to sound magic, and used it to fight as well as entertain. He is credited with stopping a small cargo raid with only his violin, but what Adagio is mostly known for (within the order at least) is his skill in one of the most powerful forms of magic: the magic of money. When Maestro Morendo joined the Sorcerers, Simon's funds were...lacking. In order to gain even a sliver of respect from the Chief Warlock or elsewhere, Adagio knew the Sorcerers would need significant financial backing; a task that the old composer happily took into his own hands. Using unmarked gold bricks aquired through his family's treasury, Adagio became one of the Sorcerer's chief investors.

Unfortunately, the act had dangerous reprecussions. Since Maestro Morendo was not a known Sorcerer, it appeared as if gold had suddenly appeared in the Order's coffers. The Chief Warlock used this spike in funds to accuse Simon and his followers of thievery; of stealing valuables from their so-called "heroics deeds" when nobody was looking. On top of being seen as traitors to the people of Elsira, Simon and his Sorcerers were now condemned as manipulative, conniving, two-faced thieves.

I am highly amused by this guy, and I want to accept him but I need a little more between "fat old noble composer" and "becoming highly respected by the Sorcerer's leadership".

Alrighty then. What did you have in mind? A little more detail on his acheivements as a sorcerer? A little bit more about his personality? A reason why he's respected (except for the fact that he's friggin' old XD)? I can do any of these without a problem, but I wanna know what you're looking for first. wink

Right. Thinking. Writing. What a pain but meh let's stop complaining. Here goes:

Name: Liam Leigh

Sex: Male

Age: 23

Appearance: WIP (until acquaintaince of mine finishes drawing the picture). Or whenever really. Things of note till then: he has a scar under his right eye.

Magic:

While he can use all the basic spells, due to overlaps with his own he neglected some of them, in particular Shield or Plant Control. Among his stronger basic spells are Levitate, Heal, Fireball and Water Manipulation.

The following are the spells he knows very well or which fit in his primary school of magic, Pressure Manipulation.

  • Wind Gust because it builds the basis for some of his spells. He won't use it much tho since it's kinda redundant considering he has his own.
  • Force Field, A shielding spell that has a maximum range of about 3m when using vast amounts of concentration. It pushes back/staggers attackers/projectiles. It uses the opponents on strengh against him so if someone were to charge him at full force he would feel the effects stronger then someone who just tries to walk up to him. Has to be actively put up over a period of 1-5 seconds depending on his mental and physical state. Taught at his temple.
  • Pressure Strike, using alternating air pressure he can send out a shockwave to extend the range/force of his attacks. Most effective against lightly armored target at close range. He only uses it when using his Fan or in hand-to-hand. Taught at his temple school.
  • Void Cut, despite it's cheesy name it is the manipulation of air currents and air pressure to create a small vacuum. Can't be used at long range and mainly sees it's use as a way of enhancing his fan/sword attacks by increasing their cutting power. While effective at killing both armored and unarmored target's it's a waste of power on the latter ones thus usually only used in fights against tougher opponents.
  • Pressure Wall usually used on the ears of a person to inhibit sound transmissions, it can also be used on a larger scale albeit by exhausting Liam rapidly by creating a wall. It works on a different principle then the Force Field so he can use it over vaster ranges but it will collapse if objects or people pass through due to a promptly increased strain on the body causing Liam to go numb for a few seconds.

All off his magic can be used on any gaseous or liquid substance depending on the costinency so e.g air is easier to manipulate then water while water is easier to manipulate then say sugar syrup (yes I'm craving for sweets). Any solid substances put an incredible strain on the body and the most he can manage is 1-2 seconds after 10-30 seconds of prior preparation. This almost completely exhausts him so it's not viable in combat.

All of his magic causes various degrees of visual distortion if it approached logically. If it's a time of myth and magic with young men involved in wierd extensive Ho Yay while saving the world then logic can be discarded.

He is ambitious and will always experiment so he might come up with something new. He won't magically sprout wings tho.

Weapon:

While his main form of combat is hand-to-hand favouring palm strikes over punches, he alternates this by using a fan and a tanto

History:

Liam was born as the youngest of many sons to a noble house. Because his father cared little for yet another useless son but didn't want to loose face, at the age of 3 Liam was send to a remote temple that had mostly removed itself of the rest of the world. This is where Liam would spend the next 19 Years of his life.

While life in the temple was hard and there was hardly any contact to the outside world, he was able to enjoy a proper education and intensive training in the ways of magic.

Originally Liam spent most of the time trying to prove to his father that he was not useless so he quickly excelled at his studies but after a while of complete ignorance on the part of his father he faltered. During the next year he had an identity crisis, during which he also developed his rather cynical/sarcastical mindset, thinking a lot of things over until it him that rather then trying to please the man it would be far more enjoyable to work towards getting his revenge on him. He would show that family of his how grave a mistake it had been to abandon him. With his vigour not only renewed but even amplified he quickly overtook students that where several years older then him and even surpassed several of his teachers by the time he was 21, always looking for an even bigger challenge to prove himself.

However his singular mindset and rapid rise led to a lot of resentment by the other students and it came to no surprise when he was ambushed during one of his solitary late-night training exercises. Although he won the fight with some scratches, cracked ribs and other bruises there were no major injuries and the only reminder of this attack can be found under his right eye. Still, several of the attackers including a teacher had been severely injured during the fight so after he had been nursed back to full health again there was no choice but to exile him from the temple.

Since he had managed to earn the favour of some of his teachers he was secretely told to seek out Simon and the Sorcerer's if he wished to continue his studies and make a name for himself. And indeed at the time it seemed that joining them was a good way to get back at his father by possibly even rising above the man he despised so much. When Simon was betrayed it opened yet another possibility to get revenge he had never even thought of and alas, there was no shortage of challenges coming his way.

I think I have proven that I am far better then any of you at creating a wall of text. Why I am proud of that no idea, must be something wrong with my head. Probably. Credits to my acquaintance for beta-reading it.

A little more detail on his achievements as a sorcerer?

This one. Personality is fine and the third subject is tied to this one since being really old is a hindrance in an very active vigilante group. Some examples of his accomplishments as a Sorcerers or wisdom he's used to better the group would be helpful.

Hammas Haukka: After mulling it over for a while, I find that I can't fit this warrior-monk temple into the established setting. The way I see it there are two options here; One, you can make have his father have sent him into the military when he was of age, only for him to bail for reasons similar to what you stated, or two, you can have him be a foreigner from very far away in which case the temple can stay but the rest of backstory would have to go. In either case, I neef him to drop the Force Field as that conflicts with something that's going to happen latter on.

Also, is English not your first language?

Is it possible to channel a shield spell into an object (e.g fan) or activate it using a hand that is already occupied with holding something (e.g a fan)?

English is my second language, why?

Name: Garth Finn

  • Sex: Male
  • Age: 30
  • Appearance: Physically, he's just taller than average, lean, and well tanned. He has wild black hair (prematurely greyed by stress) that hangs down to about his sternum, both from his scalp and his chin. Sail hair often hangs over a warm face, but harder, colder grey eyes. What appears to be a sizable array of scars line his lower chest and left side, indicating a nasty bite from a very large fish, perhaps a shark. He settles for a simple, loose white shirt over padded mail, and black pants/boots.
  • Magic: Garth's lived, worked, and fought near, on, or under the water nearly all his life. His specialization in ocean-themed magics keep it that way, even in the driest desert. Aside from the basics, his spells include....
    • Adept Water Manipulation: Can manipulate larger quantities of water to a finer degree (waves, walls, freezing, boiling), even summoning it directly from the oceans themselves. Summoning the water expends energy, however, and can tire him if he summons too large a quantity or summons it for too long.
    • Dampening: Can crudely manipulate smaller portions of water to greater effect against undead creatures and as a defense against dark magic.
    • Lightning Bolt: A moderately potent offense in lieu of water, especially effective on submersed and drenched enemies.
    • Minor Mimicry: He can take on a few of the physical traits and abilities of sea and river life, explicitly monstrous creatures being the exemption. Good for two transformations per day
  • Weapon: A trident that Garth inherited from his father, a fisherman. He's fought quite a few men with it, but holds much better against monsters, as if by intuition. He'll use more magic against humanoid enemies.
  • Background: A son of a fisherman and a weaver, second oldest of six, Garth was born in a fishing village in Elsria's southeast coast. The work was generally plentiful and his family rarely in want, but where there were lots of fish and heavy boats, frequent monster attacks would follow. That, and the occasional pirate raid. It was the case in the last century, here, and forever more, becoming as familiar to Garth as a nasty tidal wave or a strong monsoon. Familiarity of course, breeds contempt. A young Garth faced an irregular rage at the attacks compared to most in his village, especially after his family had lost their youngest son to a dire-squid. When word came that there was a man who was teaching magic, teaching that his people didn't have to live as victims, he joined the Sorcerers in a heartbeat, learning any magic he could to master his home waters. He'd only ever returned to his home once, and it was to find that most of his village, his own family included, moved inland to live off the rivers and swamps. Not burdened with may options, he decided to stick with the Sorcerers from then on.

Gareth and Garth, that'll be fun during roll call.

Accepted but he'll have to ditch the summon creatures part. That's more advanced magic than the Sorcerers have available to teach.

History:

Liam was born as the youngest of many sons to a noble house. Because his father cared little for yet another useless son but didn't want to loose face, at the age of 6 Liam was send to an elite military school. This is where Liam would spend the next 16 Years of his life.

Life in the military was hard but it gave him a sense of order and he was also able to enjoy a proper education and intensive training in the ways of magic.

At first, Liam spent most of the time trying to prove to his father that he was not useless, so he quickly excelled at his studies. However, after a while of complete apathy on his father's part, he faltered at the age of 13. Throughout the entire following year he went through an identity crisis which, amongst other things, lead him to develop a rather sarcastical/cynical view of the world.

That is the state of mind in which it struck him. Rather then trying to please his father, it would be far more enjoyable to work towards getting revenge on him. He would show that family of his how grave a mistake it had been to discard him.

With his vigour not only renewed but even amplified, he quickly overtook students that were several years older than him, often pushing his body past its limits. Always looking for an even bigger challenge to prove himself, he became cocky and at times insubordinate.

His singular mindset and rapid rise led to a lot of resentment within the student body and it came as no surprise when he was ambushed during one of his solitary late-night training exercises. He won the fight but not without nearly losing his right eye, several cracked ribs and bruises all over. Considering the sorry state his attackers were in, though, his fathers name and wealth were no longer able to protect him (nor did his father seem particularly keen on expending any additional effort).

The school was faced with a problem. The proper procedure for his charges was execution, but executing a noble's son, even a superfluous one, was not a career move the school's headmaster had in mind and, if he had to be honest with himself, the boy had shown incredible potential and thus it would be a shame to just kill him.

Instead, he decided it would be best to make Liam disappear. That is how Liam facing his imminent tribunal, found his cell door open. He took the hint and made away after gathering his belongings and some food (which was conveniently stashed right outside his cell). A note was tucked in one of the bags simply stating 2 names. Simon and Sorcerers. Liam had nowhere else to go so he gladly embraced the opportunity to continue his studies. Living with the Sorcerers calmed him and his thirst for revenge had almost completely died out by the time Simon was betrayed. With his new home so brutally taken away from him though, his hatred flared up once again. Luckily he would have plenty of chances to let his rage out in the near future.

The last part really didn't go all that well. Might change it slightly (to make it a better read) later but this should be about it. Also sheesh the amount of typos and errors I had in my original was horrid. Why did no one tell me xD?
