I am trying to remember the name of a cartoon I saw when I was young in either the 80's or early 90's, though it might have been an even older cartoon than those times.

It was animated in the style of Rikki Tikki Tavi, & was about a boy in a car like machine travelling through a cave, there was this changing colour faced octagon on it which spoke to the boy. One of the creatures they ran into claimed to be a huge giant vicious monster, but turned out to be an "Angry Inch Green Eyed Monster".

I cannot remember anything else, please help.

That's The Phantom Tollbooth. It's a film from 1970, and it's not all animated—it begins and ends with live-action sequences. Milo turns into a Chuck Jones cartoon when he drives through the tollbooth into the Lands Beyond.

The "octagon" was actually a Dodecahedron, and the monster who talked big but was actually tiny was the Demon of Insincerity.

Also, ask this stuff on You Know That Show.

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.

There's a movie version of The Phantom Tollbooth? That's awesome. [awesome] I loved that book when I was a kid. :)

I like to keep my audience riveted.

Karalora, thank you, it indeed was The Phantom Tollbooth. Thank you so much for answering, I have been searching for this cartoon for at least 10 years now with no luck, thank you for helping me find it at last :D .

Happy to oblige. I love that movie. I actually have it on DVD. It's almost as good as the book.
