Equestria Girls: A MLP:FiM Spin Off

I wish they had done a TV show for this series....

I was getting some Zecora vibes from Gaia in that there were legends about her supposed evilness but she was actually nice, but here she looks actively malicious, so now I'm not sure.

A spin-off show would be fun, but I dunno if DHX has the time for that.

Maybe after main show is done and the movie is released.

Hasbro does have Boulder Media now, but if the movie format keeps being successful, they'll probably have no inclination to change it.

Gaia Everfree does look pretty cool, though.

So... whose betting Gaia really is just misunderstood and lashing out over years of persecution, rather then being actually evil?

Odds are good given how rarely the show employs For the Evulz and/or Card-Carrying Villain.

I'd place my money on "punishing people for doing something they didn't even realize was wrong".

Yeah, either that or overreacting to something that could be easily worked out. And again likely with a lot of baggage.

I did rather get a Paranorman vibe from this. And those shots of Gaia being menacing looked more like legend/imagine spots, with the static.

Gloriosa is Gaia or related to her, calling it now. The camp and the surrounding area is her home and that's why the camp needs to be saved.

Just saw the trailer for the next movie. If their theory is true, does this mean that Starswirl dropped the ball again?

First the Dazzlings, now Gaia Everfree. Note to Starswirl. Dumping villains into alternate universes does not solve the problem. It just makes it someone else's problem.

To be fair, from the bits of Starswirl info we've had so far, he was powerful and book-smart, but wasn't street-smart.

Hey, it solved Equestria's problem. And it would have kept the Dazzlings in line too if Sunset hadn't decided to be a petty, greedy, egotistical bitch and steal the Element of Magic.

Also betting Gaia isn't from Equestria.

I would agree, but that does beg the question of how magic got there in the first place. Unless she's a newborn I guess.

I'm kinda leaning toward misunderstood too. The powers everyone picks up in the trailers don't even seem to be bad at all—the mass roots and stuff later have a much worse vibe though. So maybe she'd giving what she thinks are all these cool gifts to people and feeling bitter when they react poorly to her? Of course, there could be downsides to the powers that the trailer doesn't show, which would completely debunk my theory.

I'm feeling the powers are an inadvertent result of Gaia's magic/ the source of her magic.

Under the theory that Camp Everfree is her home, if the camp gets shut down, the land gets developed into something else, and Gaia loses her home. Therefor, she takes it out on the nearest humans.

Likely going to far, no sign of that. More likely I do agree the powers are not intended, maybe just a reaction between their innate magic from Equestria and Gaia's magic. More likely someone in the camp does something to piss her off and she goes full Gaia's Wrath on them.

If she were evil her plants would probably be something in the vein of Discord's thorns from season 4 opener.

I don't think I can trust Gloriosa, or Timber for that matter. I get they're supposed to be the ever-cheerful camp counselor type, but Gloriosa especially seems like she's trying too hard. It might be something to note that neither of them (nor Twilight and Sunset for that matter) seemed to be present when Gaia Everfree was attacking the camp in the trailer.

Yeah aside from their bickering, they both seem a little too... perfect.

Also, I think it's official that Flash's rapid descent into Butt-Monkey status is complete.

I'm thinking Timber could be a Prince Hans situation, but I'm more inclined to believe Gloriosa is the most suspect of the two, given that her website bio states outright that she's hiding something.
