Apparently the novelization of The Friendship Games is supposed to come out October 6th. Can probably expect the movie itself at roughly the same time.

If it's anything like the Rainbow Rocks book, it will actually be an adaptation of the prequel shorts.

There were two Rainbow Rocks books, one for the shorts and one for the movie. October 6th sounds about right for the movie to come. The Sunset Shimmer Book comes out next month. Huh.. I wonder if we're gonna get more shorts that serve as an Interquel between RR and FG...

You know, I really want the back story of Sunset. I mean she seems nice enough when she won her first dance popularity contest, by the second she's your typical Alpha Bitch, and by the third she's gone mad with power. As I put on another forum, over the course of three school dances she's gone from "It's an honor just to be nominated." to "Like there was any other choice?" to "Kneel before Zod!"

I meant in terms of having a literal battle. I'm aware that the term 'battle of the bands' is a thing in real life.

Maybe she was a little happy when she first got there? No responsibilities or baggage from Equestria, which as far as she was concerned she could ignore. Then she met Principle Celestia...

Oh while the film mentions cell phones, I'm guessing Applejack only uses Iphones and Ipods.

No big Friendship Games news, but I thought I'd bump the thread to share some Shadowbolts fanart from Uotapo.

...Also on a trip to Derpibooru I discovered new clear toy images have been leaked for Sunset Shimmer, some of Rainbow Dash, Sugarcoat, and Indigo Zap. Some of you might recall the early prototypes with a Lightning Dust lookalike (and indeed she's in Uotapo's fanart up there) but looks like Indigo's taken her place. Toy development, such a curious thing.

I'm wondering if Indigo Zap was originally intended to be Lightning Dust in the very early prototype stages, but then changed for some reason, or she just resembled Lightning Dust in prototype and they changed her in order to avoid confusion.

I must say, though, Sugar Coat is my favorite looking so far. I just wish her outfit wasn't so loud and clashing. Also, I think the Sunset and Rainbow dolls look really nice.

For those who can't wait for Friendship Games official animation, have a fan animation instead!

...Anyone want to take stabs at what the Shadowbolts' personalities will be like to pass the time? I'm going to assume Sour Sweet is Human Twilight's bi-polar lancer, sweet to her and sour to everyone else. And I don't know why, maybe its the scarf or something but I'm expecting a Southern Belle voice to come out of Sugarcoat's mouth.

That archery animation just made me think of something. I wonder if they're going to do a William Tell shout out with any of the characters on the archery team?

They do have an apple lover and said apple lover is famously close to her family and infamously stubborn, so ...

Sour Sweet, based on the name alone, does sound rather two faced. I'm still betting on her being a Poisonous Friend to Twilight.

I downloaded the EQG app last night out of curiosity. Not much of it seems to be relevant to the Friendship Games, beyond some of the clothes is the store. Of note was Queen Chrysalis, Ponymania Fluttershy, Sci Twi (called so in the app), and Midnight Sparkle.

It's not the most stable of apps, but I might mess around with it some more later tonight. As far as I understand, it seems to be a spoiler free retelling of the first two movies.

Messing around with the EQG app, I netted several of the characters (even a couple that aren't out), including Sour Sweet. I didn't take shots of the other two Shadow Bolts (Lemon Zest and Sunny Flare) because they really didn't offer anything, but Sour Sweet seems to be something of a miss manners. None of the girls really seem that evil. I know Hasbro may not being trying to spoil the upcoming movie, but they really had no problem making the Dazzlings and Sunset look like villains.

Maybe these girls aren't as mean as we thought?

Maybe that's one of the lessons of the story, that just because someone is on an opposing sports team, it doesn't mean they are a bad person/that competing against someone in sports doesn't mean you have to hate them as an individual. So perhaps the Shadowbolts are more Dark Is Not Evil, considering their name and what it comes from in the main show.

Or perhaps there is someone who is "evil" on the Shadowbolts' side but it's a school official who is encouraging the students to be ruthless competitors because of his/her own grudge against Canterlot High.

Wouldn't Sunset know about them always being beaten? She's been there... for longer then it should take to graduate high School after all.

But since she didn't care about friendship, she probably didn't pay any attention to that aspect of the games. It's only now that she's realizing that hey, shouldn't this thing be more, you know, friendly?

Is there a youtube version of that trailer?

I haven't seen one yet, no.

Was there anything stating it was an annual event? I dunno, it may only happen every couple of years. At most, Sunset has been there for three years.

Interesting note on Human!Twilight, she seems to be quite the Fluttershy, shying away from social situations rather than avoiding them because of no interest.

Damn, she's adorable, though.

Looks like they won't be releasing them in theaters first. Kinda glad since that's easier to watch.

I will admit, I do still feel weird going to a theater and asking for a ticket to My Little Pony. So I don't mind just being able to watch this one at home.
