For me, it's just that Awesome is just RD stroking her own ego, which by that point in the movie I'd had enough of. Plus, Trixie was just plain better at singing about how great she was.
Tricks Up My Sleeve is probably my least favorite of the bunch because I didn't really like Trixie's singing voice. (An opinion I seem to be alone on.) I found her voice is too nasally and the song a little too down tempo for my tastes. I don't care much for Awesome as I Wanna Be either, but I can appreciate its energy.
"I feel like I'm on a raft and surrounding me is an ocean of dumb."- Mr. SarkMaybe it's becuase I didn;t have a chance to hear it in full yet (what with it being prematurely stopped) but I don;t really like Awesome as I wnat to be.
My Favorite song form the movie is "Welcome to the Show" (That also includes "Rainbooms Battle")
I didn't find any of them as memorable as Helping Twilight Win The Crown though.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI'm not really a fan of Tricks up my Sleeve either.
Seems to be a Love It or Hate It kind of deal. Either you like the over the top, obnoxious lyrics that border on a Boastful Rap, or you dislike it for the same reasons.
I like them both, though Awesome as I Wanna Be needed more verses. As is it's short, but just long enough to be repetitive.
But as a whole there's not a song from either movie I don't like at least a good bit. This is Our Big Night and A Friend for Life are rather good synth pop tunes with very nice harmonies.
Awesome had a guitar solo, which gets it points for me.
Reaction Image RepositoryTricks Up My Sleeves just felt strange. I think part of the reason is that Trixie tried to get herself a guitar and even played it during the Under Our Spell, and yet, the song has absolutely no guitar instrumental whatsoever. Also, I don't know, outside of the lyrics, it didn't seem like the kind of song I imagined from Trixie. It is quite the Ear Worm though.
As for Awesome As I Want To Be, at least in the movie, I viewed on the same level as Spike's Cloudsdale Anthem, in that I was laughing and Facepalming at the same time. The song is also quite the Ear Worm, particularly that chorus.
Maybe she just gave up after the steep price of the last one she tried to buy.
Tricks isn't really my thing either. That and Music to My Ears are the tracks I feel the most "meh" about when they come up when I have the soundtrack on loop. I always perk up when either of Show and Shine come up, though. >.>

Maybe it's, uh... a guitar that plays at dog whistle-level pitches?

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...Curse you movie and your background pony cameos.
I'm still waiting for Regular Show's Rigby to do a cover of "Awesome as I wanna be". |D
I liked Tricks Up My Sleeve, though it does get a bit repetitive.
Nice to see that Trixie found a more sensible guitar.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayAccording to the commentary, the guitar was apparently for show. Oh Trixie...
That really doesn't surprise me at all. Fits right in with Trixie's whole schtick of being a showman whose actual talents are limited.
Reaction Image RepositoryThat would be true if she didn't already show that she could shred in Guitar Centered.
Maybe she's Brilliant, but Lazy instead? Like, in a 'Why put in extended effort when she's already convinced thme that she's awesome.' kind of way.
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiShe could've spent a bunch of time learning that specific solo, and not knowing how to play much else.
Reaction Image RepositoryThe same could apply to "Tricks Up My Sleeve". Her dedicating all available resources to learning that song and not learning other songs
Could explain why she only has that one song. Well, aside from the fact that she's not the most major of players to the plot.
Having only one song makes her a one-trick pony.
"Tricks Up My Sleeve" is my favorite song of the movie. It sure is very catchy, which mean I have listened it in loop for days.
Now the best song (which is different from a favorite, you gotta learn to compartimentalize) is certainly "Under Our Spell". I mean, managing to make a song about being hypnotized that has a genuine memsmerizing effect is no mean feat.
My favorite from the shorts is "Music to My Ears". Didn't care much about Pony Vinyl before, but human Vinyl is just my favorite EQ girl now.
PS: Does anybody else noticed Trixie's impressive hairstyle for the final concert? A whole long ponytail shaped like a corkscrew... would it fits in a trope? Like Regal Ringlets?

The message of Tricks Up My Sleeve and Awesome As I Want To Be both pretty much boil down to the same thing, but for some reason I rather dislike the second, but think the first is really fun to listen to.
Maybe I just don't like RD's singing voice. That, or the style of the song.
