Because while the place may be crawling with nostalgiabrats, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. It's important to have good critiques and once you get past all the bullshit, you'll find a few people like us whore sick of the morons stirring up drama and just want a legit conversation for once. They're mostly around at night.
And also because like it or not, they're one of the most active parts of the fandom and one of the biggest content producers.

I believe Lauren Faust said /mlp/ occasionally makes some good critiques and they have leaked some info regarding the show, but I personally get my daily does of masochism from browsing tumblr. They both love making every slight breeze into a hurricane.

Well, at least according to a French toy expo, we're getting a series called Equestria Academy that will air in France in November
. Now, the fact that it's announced for France yet the American release hasn't been announced yet, despite foreign premieres of MLP episodes usually not happening until toward the end of the season, makes me think that this may actually be an online short series that can be translated much more quickly than an all-out TV series. Assuming this is actually a thing, that is.
