So, as someone whose MMO experience is limited to 'playing a couple of free browser-based MM Os' I'm actually kind of looking forward to this. I like the sense of humour, the aesthetics, and numerous options for gameplay beyond 'Kill ALL the things!'
However, I'm wondering, have they said whether it will cost money to play? I kind of assumed it was free to play, but I don't think I've ever actually read that anywhere. o_O;
Also, it seems obvious to me that the two remain races are some kind of techno undead (Exile) and those green pointy eared martian scientist folks (Dominion).
I'm totes gonna create a Mechari, Mad Scientist and a Draken character.
As implied by the personality videos, the Exiles are inbred and quite possibly have no qualms about human-xenos relationships, which is weird. And they're backed up by mercs and pirates. And they're less interesting, visually.
And the Dominion are 'the chosen ones' (awesome), Wicked Cultured (awesome) and they get robots! And awesome furries (rather than silly bunny girl ones)! :3
Long live the Dominion!
Nice interview with the Mechari.
Q: Yes, I guess you could say that. You know what? I think I've got everything I need. I should really get going now...
A: Oh, are we done here? Good. Unfortunately, I will be forced to confiscate all footage of this interview. And do not even think of getting up from that chair. Agents, secure the perimeter. I have a few questions of my own...

Jonah FalconObligatory fuck N Csoft in the eye post.
THAT is how you do a trailer. They had an adrenaline-fueled description of player housing.
Bleye knows Sabers. They really are using many elements of GW 2 as kickoff points for what they're doing but are taking each element at least one step further. I'm not too happy with Gaffney's repeated emphasis on stuff being 'new' but it's a step up from the World Of Warcraft model at the very least.
Actually, they said to me that their chief Pv P inspiration was Dark Age Of Camelot.
Jonah FalconDidn't Warhammer Online build off of DAOC's model too? Seeing as the former is my favorite Pv P experience of all time...
Bleye knows Sabers.Warhammer Online was made by Dark Age Of Camelot devs.
Wild Star is going to do it right.
Jonah FalconWell, given that we can't know the future we can only hope that they do it right. Honestly, their PR-ful trailers don't inspire me too much, but they seem to have a few good ideas.

I must admit that it's a lot more different from GW 2 in its current build than what was shown earlier. I do have a concern regarding the amount of time each enemy spends telegraphing its attacks especially with the blindingly obvious indicators (which I hope we can turn off).
Another Entertaining trailer showing off the "Paths". I think I'll be going Explorer, but settler sounds fun too.
Bleye knows Sabers. This Mechari certainly isn't lacking in the humor development. A retcon maybe?
They should do a Exiles version. The redneck bravado will be entertaining to say the least.
~Chuckle~
That was entertaining.
Is that Cree Summer in that first trailer?
Also, what is there besides combat in this game - this game has caught my interest, but I hope it's not something that ultimately falls into hacking and slashing in order to bolstering your ability to hack and slash (or cast a few spells and buffs) in the end - that often feels complex but runs together. It one of the reasons I got bored of most of the other MMORP Gs I've played.
Towns (and Explorers/Settlers in general) seem different than Warplots, what goes into making them and helping them grow? How much do they effect gameplay, the game world or the player's options - can you build towns and then go onto offer quests to other players? How much exploring goes into being an explorer? Is it just another combat type, or does your exploration actually do something?

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Apparentyl Exploration involves a lot of platforming and scaling mountains, which I'm totally for.
I don't know how the nuts and bolts of these things work, but they are definitely doing their best to make sure everyone can do what they want to do. It's still taking cues from the current crop of MMO's though so all paths will still be doing a lot of hacking and slashing. The path is completely separate from your class, after all.
Bleye knows Sabers.Explorers, Scientists and Settlers will be interacting with environmental set-pieces far more frequently than Soldiers, I expect, and will probably get a much larger chunk of exp from those as well.
I hope the terrain collision detection is a lot better than that in GW 2. Platforming in that game is evil.
Double post to bump with a Path intro:
Some of these activities seem a bit similar to what GW 2 offers, only restricted based on path. Some of them are definitely new, especially the Settler activities.
@JAF: pardon me if I'm skeptical. almost every MMO claims they'll do so and so "right"
Nevermind games like DAOC did a lot right to begin with and that sounds downright insulting to them.
This game looks tight. Nice and cartoony. Gives me those Jak and Daxter/ Ratchet and Clank vibes I used to get as a kid.
Live your life.I know. Not that it's stopping the dirty humor any.
It'll be nice playing in a world that looks like I want to actually save/conquer it for once.

Why there are so many spiders on my head?
You mean the GW 2 template?
