@Soup: Ok, I'll let you do the rewrite (if you think it's necessary.) My problem with breaking the fourth wall are more practical ones than about how believable it is: do we really want characters going around babbling stuff nobody else could know about? (Especially existential stuff about how they are all just characters in a comic book/RPG game, that's too meta for my suspension of disbelief.) As long as they are just stuff he is making up, it's OK though.

Oh, and after being approved you have to wait to be told when you can begin posting. (though considering how AB could pretty much show up anywhere, that shouldn't take long.)

@Ud: Actually, I like those ideas. Stranger things HAVE happened in comics- see my point above though.

I'm slightly confused about what to do for the rewrite.

Really, it'd just settle me brain if you put the bold words with bullet points in, like on the first post.

You can make a bullet point by putting a * right next to a word, and turn text bold by putting ''' at either side.

Thanks, Misc. Soup. Settles my OCD tendencies a lil' bit.

Accepted!

You can hop into the game soon, if you'd like. Currently, the heroes are busy preparing for a press conference, so, best not to bother them just yet.tongue Also, be sure to visit the discussion thread, and catch up with your fellow players around the battle-scarred water cooler.

I am already feeling the pressure for signing up for such an important and iconic charactertongue. Not that I don't love my othercharacters of coursesmile. Surely everything is subject to change until "all fits" so she gets accepted smile.

I am planning on drawing a comic that would explain her origins in detail, but long story short the biggest twist on her classic origin is that she has always been in Jump City, as a "human". Even if she was always aware of being adopted, she wasn't aware of her powers or true heritage. Her powers would have had been suppressed thanks to a silver bracelet carved with the symbol of the house of el and blue kryptonite, that she would have never stopped wearing as it would be the only clue she had from her "true" parents and her origin.

One day, the would discover her powers and "connect the dots" and of course try to emulate Superman.

I do want her to be part of the Kent family but I am guessing it would be hard to explain she being in Jump City and the Kents in Smallville. In any case if she is going to be part of the Kent family, her "adopted" parents would willingly give their custody to the kent as they would feel they have more experience with raising a superpowered kid and as long as Kara still keeps in touch with them.

  • Long Version
My idea would be that her father Zor-el, a scientist for krypton, did believe, or at least wasn’t willing to take the risk, about Jor-El's claims of krypton's oncoming doom. Like other scientists from the science council Zor-El was reluctant to believe on him, but he was also dying and his wife had just died as well, if what Jor-el was saying was actually true, his worst nightmare would be having her daughter to die alone without love.

However Zor-el opposed his brother Jor-el's idea of having her son to interfere on humanity’s history at all. He believed in that every species had the right to decide their fate. He also wanted to give her daughter a normal and happy life (or as close as he could), and decided to send her to earth as well. The decisive thing that made Zor-El leave with his daughter from Krypton was the fact that fear that the only person he loved the most and the only one he had left would perish. He spent his last years with Kara on krypton and Kara would remember living her younger years on Krypton.

One day knowing his time was close, he decided to finally travel with young Kara on a spaceship. This spaceship would take longer to arrive due to a time dilation from passing nearby a black hole. While her daughter was on "stasis", he would bond both of them with human DNA. As a result of the ship taking longer to arrive and Zor-El hesitating to do this process (some years), her human aging process would begin later than superman’s and therefore she would be “younger” than Kal-El.

Zor-El refused of denying her daughter of a “normal life”, "an outcast", "freak" and being part of a world she would never fit in and of interfering with humanity’s liberty. Zor-El decided, he would give young Kara his last 3 gifts before giving her for adoption.

  1. A last kiss and a last hug
  2. The symbol of her legacy: a bracelet, with the symbol of the house of el carved in, that would have blue Kryptonite, in order to suppress her powers.
  3. A necklace with a last message from her parents...

Zor-el himself died of old age as a “human”. Kara of course would vaguely remember her time in krypton, but everyone would tell her that it was all just her "Hyperactive imagination" and she would eventually think the same and live her life as an average human.

One day she would lose her bracelet and discover her true calling as a superhero in Jump City...

With Supergirl, you have a lot of room for interpretation since in the comics she has been rebooted several times (she's been everything from an android to an angel- seriously!) The only thing you must take note of is that in our game Liz intends Kryptonians to be energy beings with artificial organic bodies. Or something, I was never clear on that.

Thank you, yeah I did consider the "energy being" thingy, hence the "bond with human DNA" parttongue

After some consideration, I've decided to retire my current character. I think this guy will be much more fun.

  • Name: Black Manta

  • Real Name: David G. Verne

  • Gender: Male

  • Age: Mid-Late 40s

  • Appearance: Here.

  • Alignment: Villain

  • Personality: Styling himself as the "arch-nemesis" of both SHIELD and Atlantis, Black Manta is a vulnerable and imperfect being, who nevertheless believes that he is a rational man of tact and grace. As a high-ranking AIM agent, Black Manta is blindly obedient to his superiors, and would do anything a superior officer asks of him without hesitation. At the same time, he expects the same loyalty from his men, and harshly punishes his subordinates for the smallest of failures. Despite stylizing himself as being cold and remorseless, Black Manta still holds himself to a code of ethics, which have not yet conflicted with the wishes of his superiors.

  • Powers and Abilities:

    • SHIELD Training: Black Manta is a former SHIELD agent and was trained as a combat diver and as a submarine pilot.

  • Weapons and Equipment:

    • Manta-Suit: Created using a combination of SHIELD and AIM designs, Black Manta's suit is characterized by the manta-shaped head with two large, daunting red eyes that also allow him to shoot particle beams; there are small tubes that connect from the back of the head to his shoulders. The hands of his suit are webbed; the suit also sports fins on each of his legs. Hidden in his suit are compartments that allow him to fire torpedoes. The Manta-Suit gives its wearer cybernetic strength comparable to Iron Man's armor, and can also function underwater, with artificial gills allowing the wearer to breathe underwater for an indefinite amount of time. Black Manta has several Manta-Suits in his armory.

    • Manta-Sub: Black Manta's main base of operations is his personal submarine, the Manta-Sub. The Manta-Sub was built by AIM using a mishmash of designs stolen from SHIELD, and is powered by a nuclear reactor. As Black Manta's home and primary hideout, the Manta-Sub is heavily guarded at all times by its crew and can accommodate long-term residents. The Manta-Sub also contains several Manta-Flyers, which are small submarines that can also take to the air as jets.

    • Radically Advanced Ideas in Destruction: Black Manta owns his own department within AIM, known as RAID. RAID is comprised of elite marines, combat divers, and oceanic researchers, and operates like AIM's own private navy. RAID members are competent and equipped to handle the police and military, but are no match for the average superhero.

    • Oil Rig: Black Manta controls an abandoned oil rig off the coast of Jump City, which serves as one of his bases. The oil rig is lightly guarded and easy to access compared to his other hideouts.

  • Origin:

    • Very little is known about David Verne. As a child, he was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He loved to play by the Chesapeake Bay, and grew a fascination for the sea at an early age. Later on in life, David was admitted into Arkham Asylum for treatment, but was inadvertently used as a test subject.

    • Some time after being discharged from Arkham, David Verne joined SHIELD, and was promoted to SHIELD Clearance Level 6. He quickly befriended another SHIELD agent, Calvin Durham. As part of a SHIELD oceanic task force, David and Calvin were tasked to search for sunken vessels and aircraft, find and dispose of nuclear waste polluting the ocean, and help those in distress far out at sea.

    • While surveying the oceans in an advanced diving chamber one day in the early 90s, David and Calvin accidentally discovered the sunken continent of Atlantis. The two agents were accepted into Atlantis, and became something like celebrities for their heroics. The attention the duo received put a rift between them: While Calvin wanted to return to the surface and report back to SHIELD, David wanted to stay in Atlantis and keep the continent's location a secret, so he could have an excuse for staying.

    • The tensions between the two grew worse when David became engaged with an Atlantean woman, which would get him discharged from SHIELD if his superiors found out. David's poor conduct also got the attention of the Atlantean government, who were starting to tire of having a bad-mannered surface-worlder freeloading off the citizens and causing trouble. At the height of the conflict, David Verne went AWOL on SHIELD and vanished into the seas, without so much as an oxygen tank for survival.

    • While David Verne was thought to be dead by both the Atlanteans and the surface dwellers, he was in fact alive and well, having been kidnapped by members of AIM who were out at sea. David leaked valuable SHIELD intelligence to his captors, and was recruited into their ranks. Using a mishmash of SHIELD and AIM designs, he became the undersea pirate Black Manta, and conducted various plots to steal Atlantis' treasures, only to be defeated every time.

    • As HYDRA and SHIELD grew more active in Jump City, Black Manta was encouraged to relocate to California, to focus his attention on SHIELD and on the West Coast Justice Avengers, who had been harassing his superiors for some time.

  • Name: Wonder Girl
  • Real Name: Kamala Khan
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: Teenager
  • Appearance: Out of costume. In costume, only replace the lightning bolt emblem with this.
  • Alignment: Good
  • Personality: A superhero nerd and gamer, Kamala is headstrong and determined, with a natural courage and an earnest desire to help people. Still trying to figure out exactly who she is and what she should do, she has nevertheless thrown herself into the hero business with gusto, alternating between figuring out the intricacies of her power and geeking out about meeting the subjects of her fandom.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Shapeshifting: Kamala can alter the size and shape of her own body, from individual portions (ie, enlarging one fist for a stronger blow or extending her legs to run faster) to complete transformation (ie, disguising herself as a sofa, shrinking down to the size of a bug or growing 2 stories tall). Her strength increases as she grows and decreases as she shrinks.
    • Healing factor: She can also use her power to rapidly heal herself. However, she can't have both her healing and shapeshifting powers active at the same time. The process is also very energy-intensive and tends to leave her fatigued and ravenously hungry.
  • Weapons and Equipment: Her home-made costume.
  • Origin:
    • A Pakistani girl from a strict but loving immigrant family, Kalama was born and raised in Jump City. Up until a two weeks ago all she had to worry about was fitting in at school, maintaining her grades, and juggling homework with World of Battlecraft and writing the next chapter of her Justice Avengers / Magical Ponyland crossover fanfic. However, these became the least of her issues the night she snuck out of home to attend a party. A cloud of mysterious gas swept down the street and engulfed her.
    • A high-speed chase between villains and the police had deposited a barrel of Quantum Vapor onto the road, and Kamala found herself joining the ranks of the Bang Babies. After a few incidents where she involuntarily shapeshifted into her hero Wonder Woman, she started the process of understanding her new powers and putting them to use, now calling herself Wonder Girl in homage to her long-time idol.
