Karyn Kiyoko Kusama is an American filmmaker who works primarily in action and horror. Born in 1968 to a Japanese father and a Caucasian American mother, she started out working for John Sayles as an assistant before breaking out with Girlfight in 2000. Her subsequent films have been noted for their strong feminist and existential themes; in popular culture she's probably best known for directing the cult hit Jennifer's Body.
