Show creators that were in the zone

I'll just come right to the point; the creators of Gargoyles, Avatar, Ben 10 and Star Wars, they were just in the zone when they made those shows.

They quite literally created entire universes within those shows, universes with creatures, histories and (at times) laws of their own. I just wish that this kind of effort went into shows that had the potential to be like these other shows: American Dragon: Jake Long, Teen Titans, Xiaolin Showdown etc.

Anything anyone else has to add?

Could you specify this topic a bit more?

Are you talking about cartoons that have world building and profound development, or just basic quality? Also are we talking about examples we though did well with it or ones we wish were such?

The topic is picking out the creators of certain shows that you feel were in the zone when they made their shows

Well it's hard to say for some, since a lot of times creators only get to sell off their idea, then it's handed off to a different team with them getting no involvement in how it's written or developed again (others such as John K with The Ren And Stimpy Show get the priviledge of working on it for a short duration but ultimately lose it as well).

Admitedly a few of such cases are a shame since the creators do at least seem to have more a passion and understanding for bringing their work to life than the creative team it's handed to (looking at Mike Jupp's notes and short promo for The Dreamthief for example, it feels he would have brought a lot more imagination and depth to the show than the final product).

My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic is more fortunate example of this, since while the main creator lost creative control after one season, it was at least continued by a good number of staff who have some decent idea how to take her ideas (and even utilized scrapped stuff from her early plans). There's been a few slip ups as of recently, but on a frequent enough basis a breakthrough is made that makes you realise they really care for their work.

I definitely feel whoever made Adventure Time has having one heck of a creative breakthrough, for better or worse.

Ben Hurst is a rather tragic example. He seemed to have an increasing passion for Sonic Sat Am the more he progressed, though sadly a lot of his ideas and directions actually seemed to make it worse. When I look at his Season Three notes, it feels a real shame he never got to put his ideas into motion given how determined he was to make it happen for so long after the show was cancelled, but at the same time I'm wondering if a lot of them were really workable.

I love how he uses such a specific term as "in the zone".

Definitely Adventure Time. Though I'm kind of glad it's in its final season since the creative ideas may be running low...

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

[up]I was wrong? I thought it was its final season for some reason....Never mind. surprised

Edit: In fact, it says on The Other Wiki that it was only recently confirmed to have been renewed for a sixth season.

@0dd1: It's basically the unofficial tenth commandment, that thou shall not let Kanye get in his zone.

Or else he will concieve the anti Christ, whoops, too late.

Good thing it's unofficial, since the official 10th Commandment is "Thou shalt not covet etc."

Pain and misery, my friend. And riches galore, so he won't care. I give it four years the most before they try to cash in on him with a TV show.

I've been meaning to play it, but I still haven't yet! I'm most often on my phone when internetting, and, unfortunately, there's no app for that :(
