Maybe, though I highly doubt it, but maybe the marketing will try and gather the book series' fans... and then the movie will really be a brutal deconstruction of the entire book series and show exactly why its so horrible?
Would be absolutely brilliant and I'd be singing their praises and bravado for doing so, but I don't think they'll actually do it.
I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing.Doubtful. If nothing else, The Hunger Games proved that you can make a terrible movie from an even worse book and still rake in the cash, as long as you've got a dedicated fanbase to exploit.
I'm not going to get into a discussion on the quality of The Hunger Games (book or movie), but you at least have to admit that there is no way in hell either one is as bad as Left Behind.
I didn't think the HG movie was all that bad (haven't read the books), but anyone making a movie plan based on 36.5 million copies combined (HG: 17.5; CF: 10; Mj: 9) sold of the original book series is not exactly a financial genius.
At least this "overestimating the power of the fandom" wasn't coming from within the fandom, I guess...

All your safe space are belong to TrumpThe point being that it doesn't matter. Sell eight skillion copies of a book, and the fandom is going to want to see the movie.
What's the difference between Rayford Steele and Nicholas Cage?
One's a wild eyed fanatic and the other one is....
Edit, edit, edit, edit the wiki...Is it bad I originally thought that was one of Captain Hammer's lines from Dr Horrible
ophelia, you're breaking my heartOh my god, Nicholas Cage looks BORED outta his mind in that clip.
David Bowie 1947-2016Is this still going ahead or are we waiting for April Fool's Day for the film's backers to announce, "Haw, haw, we fooled y'all! Thar ain't no darned film being made, we was just trollin' yew!!!"
One thing I just noticed from the set photos. The airline Rayford flies on is called "Pan Con Air".
Nice.
Schild und Schwert der Partei"Why didn't you put the bunny back in the box?"
Why do I get the feeling they're going for a deliberate parody here?
Direct all enquiries to Jamie B GoodPencil in your diaries and ready your Sunday best, gents, for Nic Cage will be spreading the Good News on Friday, 3rd of October.
Cage said of the movie:
Cage added of the role, “I wanted to do it because it was so challenging and unusual to me.”
Sounds like PR guff to me. Still, nobody can accuse Nic Cage of not putting in his salary's worth.
The film was apparently shot in just six weeks - that seems remarkably...short.
Schild und Schwert der ParteiYeah, it's not the longest shooting time, but if you don't have much on-location shooting, it can go much faster. And TV shooting tends to be much quicker. (Not for a whole series, but for something like a double-length pilot.)

Schild und Schwert der ParteiI am guessing this wont get an international release.
So... did anyone dare to try and watch the movie yet?
Nope, though it is in the Top Ten film charts in the States, so someone else out there is watching it.
Reviews from acquaintances seem to sum it up as being pretty boring, and that it seems to be acting as a drawn out prequel for future sequels.
I remember when I first tried to read the books, I thought his True Christian wife and daughter were Anvilicious representations of how crazy fundies can get, and weren't supposed to be sympathetic. It's only when I gave up on it and read some more online that I realized they were supposed to be the good guys, and more like The Cassandra than anything.
