A bit reading into things too much for Garnet's universe, Lion 3, and alone together, but still that's only 3 episodes out of 17 so far that don't fit within the pattern.
my blogSo then Rebecca Sugar's storyboard credit on "Maximum Capacity" must have been to trick you into thinking it was another lull in the character conflicts!
Amethyst gets pretty aggressive/cruel when she's upset. We've seen her physically attack others (Tiger Millionaire, On the Run) but shape shifting into Greg's [dead, no longer in a physical form, whatever happened to her] wife is a new level.
Makes sense, since she's Token Heroic Orc.
Plenty season 1a episodes could also be described that way—and they get more frequent the later on you go.
I dunno that that trope really fits her. She was made by bad gems, but there doesn't seem to be anything racially different about her except that she was made out of Earth, literally.
We'd need to see more gems that were confirmed to come from the kindergarten before we know if there's anything substantially different about them compared to Homeworld gems. Everything we've seen about Amethyst in comparison to the others says they're overall the same.
Click for more crappy pixel artIt's more of an inversion of Raised by Orcs (which, despite the name, can apply to groups that are biologically/racially the same, just opposed to each other).
I'm now just finding out, after six months, that Sugar didn't just mention there being a longer version of the theme song, she actually performed it, and only about 1/4 of the new lyrics were omitted.
Now that were know about the Crystal Gems/Homeworld Gems split, it seems pretty clear what the second half it about. Now the question is if "what we really are" is more about that or... not.

So here's a thing. Do you thing the Rose-shifting scene in Maximum Capacity was made more potent, made less potent, or unaffected by Lion 3? I mean, because we saw Rose for the first time in that one, we were immediately like "OH MY GOD AMETHYST YOU LOOK JUST LIKE HER!" On the other hand, imagine if that was Rose's first full appearance.
Currently writing something. Currently procrastinating. That is a pretty interesting question! And in addition to that, it would be the first time STEVEN ever saw her in full, not just the audience.
Which is just... awful to think about.
Despite my screen-name, ranting to you about One Piece is not my top priority.I am having serious trouble working out even the known lyrics beneath that guitar.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. In that context that would be pretty awful and probably extremely traumatizing for Steven. If he was amore ordinary kid he might even have difficulty associating his mother's image with all the wonderful things she's known for.
In terms of the audience it would be like a dark version of something that happened n MLP: Fi M. There's a character in that show that barely spoke a word at a time, and then in an episode where he does talk a lot due to circumstances beyond his control people wanted nothing more than for him to stop. To be fair it was because he was talking in an annoying lovey-dovey baby talk due to the affects of a love potion but...
The audience affect would be similar as it would go "This is exactly what I wanted all this time: BUT NOT LIKE THIS! NOT LIKE THIS!"
The Blog The ArtWait I got this...I got this...BIG MACINTOSH! Right? Am I a pegasister yet?
To be honest, I'm having trouble understanding why the shapeshifting scene was so heavy. I mean, I get that Greg's former best friend turned into his dead wife, but I don't understand the emotional impact behind it, even though I know why it'd be traumatizing.
Currently writing something. Currently procrastinating.Eeeeyup. Also, I'd rather keep the ridiculous and polarizing terms out of it. Can't people just be fans for cartoons?
It's not just emotionally traumatizing for Greg, it's also the fact that Amethyst would go that far. She loved Rose, he loved Rose, this is disrespectful to her memory in so many ways. Rose was a person who loved everything and Amethyst, someone rose cared about and probably helped raise, used her image, not to spread her message of love and peace and kindness but to torture her husband. To make him feel guilty for "Not wanting to spend time with Amethyst".
I mean it's not only an insult to everything Rose is about, it was also extremely petty, which kind of makes it slightly more heinous.
The Blog The ArtOf course they can, but I still think MLP:FiM has some of the best fan terms ever. I mean, the terms brony/pegasister are mocked but actually really creative. Gravity Falls fans get...Fallers? Really? Why can't we be the Decipherers or something?
...Anyways, I see your point now, I guess. Man, I can't wait for my brother to watch this. He was pretty shocked by On The Run.

Currently writing something. Currently procrastinating.I know! It's awful. I'm not even gonna use it, since apparently it's not very well-known (YET.)
EDIT: In looking up SU, did you guys know the Heartwarming and Nightmare Fuel pages have almost the same cover image? It's Garnet with her shades off. That says something really good about her.

Currently writing something. Currently procrastinating. Not counting the lyrics in the pilot or the opening version of the song:
Lala-la-lala-Lala-lala-lala
La-lala-lala-la-Lala-La-la
Lala-lala-Lala-la-La-lala-la
If you could only know
What we really are
Lala-la-lala-la
Lala-la-lala-la
We were amazed to find
Your beauty and your worth
We will protect your kind
We will preserve your Earth
We will protect your Earth
That last line might have been "defend", but you can get the point regardless.
When I said only about a quarter of the lyrics were obscured, I was assuming that first "verse" didn't have lyrics Sugar was leaving out. If it does, then that's about half.
If by "cover image" you mean the thumbnail that shows up on google search, Garnet doesn't have her shades off for that first one. The actual page image are nothing (so far) and Frybo's "bleeding" model sheet.

Even though we are devoid of attachment to your kind other than Steven's love for this planet.
Pearl and Garnet joined the Crystal Gems because they agreed with Rose, not just because they did whatever she told them. They aren't as explicit about loving everything as Rose and Steven, and Pearl clearly thinks Gems are better than humans, but they definitely thought life on Earth was worth maintaining. The fact that Amethyst is so ashamed of being a "parasite" pretty clearly shows that she cares too.

The bad guys?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWhy not? They're awesome!
Currently writing something. Currently procrastinating.Well, except the Blind Eyes. They're mostly a bunch of goobers.
Still, its weird to identify yourself with the show's villains like that.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersBut there are so many other options!
Like Dipsticks or Pine Trees or the Alliance of Sweater Supporters

"Stevonnie" counts as a creepy moment from Steven and Connie in my book. Also when they ran away from home (dumb rather than creepy, but still.) Nobody's perfect here, not even Garnet.
Not that I'm complaining, the fact the show *has* character flaws and depth is one of the reasons I watch it.
