At times, less is more after all.
Though with that said, even though I really enjoyed this film's method of storytelling, I don't think it should be utilized for every action film. Some of my favorite films of all time utilized plenty of expository dialogue, and still managed to be enjoyable. This was probably due to the fact that the stories present in those films were more complicated in terms of the world and themes on display. Fury Road knew that it had a very simplistic story, and didn't need much in the way of exposition. That's why I felt it went with showing more than telling for its narrative.
So it's really a matter of styles.
I second that. For this particular film, it worked very well - but there are many other films where an equally minimalistic approach just wouldn't work at all. Just as an example - the (original and best) Matrix was an excellent example of an action-heavy movie that still had plenty of (interesting) exposition.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."As another tropper said, this movie and Matrix are polar oposite of each other, Mad max is one part a semi-silent film with caotic insanity, Matrix is fill with exposition deliver somewhat slowly, in the case of Mad max it work by being aware of how simple the storyline is and therefore bulding their streghts
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Yes, they are polar opposites in terms of approach but they are both excellent in their opposite ways. Fury Road is one of my favourite films (as in, ever) but it benefits from a director who came up with the whole concept himself rather than adapting a script by A.N. Other and free from most executive meddling. Also, Tom Hardy in particular is very good at expressing a lot without using many words but there's other good actors who can't pull it off as well.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."So recently, FPS Overwatch introduced a character who is a 60 year old sniper grandma (a very welcome change of air, I must say).
The first thing I thought was: So...is she a Vuvalini?
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Holy shit that was my first thought too.
I love sniper grandma.
Oh really when? One of her voice lines is even "Witness me".
With Roadhog and Junkrat, we've basically got quite a spiritual Mad Max cast assembled.

In general, I can use more women who are past 40 and look the age.
It's amusing how so many people who worked on Fury Road are very old by industrial standards, including the director himself.
Oh God, for real?

I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Any of you folks think there's been enough money made by this film that George's almost guaranteed to get a sequel greenlit?
Actually, box office run it was sort of so-so, earning about twice its budget (which many studios consider par due to marketing costs). But due to its unexpected wide award nominations, I don't think it's in any danger of being overlooked. It also helps that Fury Road was very slowly saved up and negotiated for. The sequel will happen, but it doesn't have an immediate deadline to rush for.
George Miller already confirmed that there will be a sequel.
Here's hoping that his health is in good conditions and keeps on making movie past 80s like Clint Eastwood.

NOT MEDIOCRE!
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Just thought I'd leave this here:
"Mad Max Fury Road meets metal"
I'm pretty sure fury road was pretty damn metal already
I know, right?
Still, the actual OST is very sparse on the metal bits. There wasn't even a single track dedicated to the Doof Warrior!
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I love what this guy does, but that one was dispensable, I think. Didn't add much to the original (though the solo at the end was pretty cool). =[ How could anyone top the original's epicness, anyway?
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.Depends on the soundtrack version you're talking about. The one I got on Amazon music had a song called "Chapter Doof".
Chapter Doof has the Doof Warrior music but only towards the end. It's not an electric guitar solo, just the most of the music that plays during the final chase.
I'm pretty sure I posted this before, but what the hell, this is the best graduation ever.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. As the article I'm going to link says, this is a PSA - Fury Road's Black and Chrome cut, the one George Miller thinks is the best, is now streaming on Amazon:
There's even a handy side-by-side video comparing the normal cut with the new one.
From the excerpts, I'd say I still prefer the color version, but it can be a nice experience.
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo. So is Black & Chrome just the standard video converted to greyscale? Because you can do that to any DVD played using VLC. Tools > Effects > Video Effects, check Color Extraction and set the value to FFFFFF
Yeah, with so many movies filled with almost annoying amount of quips, this movie's very sparse use of them made me appreciate it so much more.
