Blegh. Arms race.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Seems likely.
Watch SymphogearI actually doubt it. Will the new consoles even be able to render 3840 x 2160 at 60fps? Even if they can, you'd still need the yet-to-be-released HDMI 2.0 cables to deliver it to the TV. Besides, how many people are going to have the absolute top of the line equipment necessary to benefit from it?
Heck, can you even tell the difference over upscaled 1080p?
If I had to guess, I would think 9th gen would be more likely.
Never be normal....Do we even need 2160p resolution? 1080p seems not even to make much of a substantial difference from 720p, so how could 2160p make picture clarity any better at all?
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle. We do not have fly's eyes. We don't need anymore sharper pixels that consume unwarranted amount of processing power.
What profit is it to a man, when he gains his money, but loses his internet? Anonymous 16:26 I believe...^, ^^ Tell that to those with bright idea of 4k resolution...
Give me cute or give me...something?Eh, arms races always happen with tech like this. It's natural to start thinking of stuff like this as a natural conclusion, and not care about what applications it could have.
Hell, this could have applications for massive screens, in a general sense. Broadcasted e-sports games in a large, public square, anyone?
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelThey do that already. And how much better can they look, seriously? Do we need to see every bead of sweat on the players' faces? (We already can, and I'd argue that that's going to extremes.)
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I think it's just a useless chase for luxury, like most things these days involving supercars.
What profit is it to a man, when he gains his money, but loses his internet? Anonymous 16:26 I believe...Don't knock supercars. The Henessey Venom GT and the Shelby North America Tuatara have the right idea.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelWhat is a supercar? Is that like a Batmobile?
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Kinda like that, but without the crazy gadgets.
Sounds kinda pointless then. But, then, I know nothing about cars (something that my friend mocks me endlessly about), so maybe I'm missing something.

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Oh, flashy expensive cars. That's all you had to say. I don't get the appeal, aside from "they look cool" and "this shows off how much money I have."
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle. Please no. Making games is expensive as is and we don't even have enough of these T Vs on the market for it to be worth it. Maybe when the ninth generation rolls around.
Even back in the Sixth Generation, when HD was still just a luxury, the PS 2 and Xbox could output 1080p.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I am of the school that such a thing is pointless, panders to the millionaires out there who can afford the kit, yet who are too busy screwing money out of the ones less considerably rich than them to have time to play games at all and is taking us no further forward in what matters about computer and console gaming.
Gameplay. That's it.
But all developers progressed to 1080p when they knew that development costs would go up. I don't know if developers care about those costs anymore.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.A good number of games aren't true HD anyway, they are upscaled from something like 1038 for better control over contrast ratios or something. In any case I've been noticing that the biggest difference between 720 and 1080 depends largely on the refresh rate, if both are at 60hz it's impossible to tell the difference.
Hell, I'd say a good test is to find a video online that offers both 720p and 1080p playback, watch it both ways, and see if there's any obvious difference. To the naked eye, there generally will be none, unless you're really, REALLY scrutinizing the picture.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Don't want to break it to you guys, but I'm sure you remember a time when 60-inch tvs were unnecessarily big and you only know it existed because they appeared on MTV Cribs.
No regret shall pass over the threshold!I still think 60 inches is a bit much.
And I never watched MTV.

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Well yeah, but you got my point. Ultra-High Definition T Vs might be (at the very least) half the size of your average wall, and while it might take long, they will be there someday.
No regret shall pass over the threshold!
2160p TVs are coming up, as seen at CES. Are the upcoming next-gen consoles going to support that resolution? The Wii U probably won't, because it was built with 1080p in mind, but it's likely that the other consoles could support that.
