Whether or not the content is stolen or copied is apparently up for debate. The back pack, stealth suit, and even the dwemer crab look very very similar to free mods found on the Nexus. That though seems to fly in the face of original content only.

I have mixed feelings. I'd love a new Elder Scrolls game, but . . . they're starting to act like they're running out of steam, and they're getting like Valve did just before they dropped the idea of making original games and just focused on Steam and add-ons for their multiplayer games. IF all this paid mod stuff is a precursor to them cleaning up Gamebryo and releasing it as a full game development kit instead of just modding pre-existing games, this could pump some serious fuel into the Indy game engine. THAT I could get behind. Just don't know if they're going to go that route. They're still in bed with Valve and doing something like that would be butting into the same market Valve's in.

Steam does good business with quite a few indie titles so I wouldn't say that would be competing with steam. Especially with the whole Greenlight thing in place in steam proper. Hell steam has sold game making engine(s) and programs.

Though I am with you on them starting to run out of steam. Frankly I think they need to inject a lot of fresh talent into their company especially the design and story departments. Maybe hire on some of Obsidians better writers or find their own.

They're not hemorrhaging money. There's no reason they can't do that already. Considering where their brains seem to be nowadays, I don't think they want to go in that direction.

They also announced today that TES VI isn't even in development, not even pre-production yet........

Whiiich kinda makes me doubt Beths ability to do any thing but milk skyrim for more money any more.

Its a 6 year old game now, yet it STILL had not 1 but TWO e3 spots.

Well with TES they are on a wall because of the MMO, they want people to play that. Its the same way with Warcraft 4.

Anyone who makes an MMO that will be the end of the line for that world, it will be exclusively that from then on outside of gaiden games.

Yep, if they wanna expand the universe they'll do it through the MMO.

Oh really when?

[up][up][up]

That actually boggles my mind.

There is no reason at all, with all of the resources and revenue that Bethesda has at their disposal, that they can't simultaneously develop multiple games.

I'm not asking for an announcement anytime soon, but the game should be in the pre-production stages right now. Scripting, lore-crafting, etc....not really sure what they're doing.

Why would it ever be made while The Elder Scrolls Online exists doing the exact same thing only making them more money via monthly charges? It is NEVER going to happen as long as the MMO exists with people playing it and another game will take away people from the MMO.

That franchise is now basically shelved outside of the MMO and gaiden stuff like the card game.

The MMO has went F2P a long time back, and they have said in the same anouncment they are going to do TES 6.

They just have 2 in-house games (developed not published, so not the two anounced at E3) first.

.... They apperntly are doing super inefficient and non-parallel development it looks like. :/

So, basically, anyone who supports ESO is part of the problem?

I hate to say it, and that's probably not true at all, but I can't help but feel that way....

[up]

And I understand (and support) branching out with new I Ps, but not at the cost of your largest franchises. The have to start somewhere I suppose, but it does seem inefficient at this point.

Its not F 2 P its the pay per xpac model that Guild Wars uses, with lots of ingame purchases and possible subscription.

[up] It isnt really a problem in the first place...

New franchises are good btw. Its not like the TES story is being hindered, its being told in online. If they announce TES VI it will kill the MMO no other way around it and it will sour the fans who play it then it will be a problem.

[up][up][up]Valve said they were going to do 3 episodes of HL 2 AND a third game. Come HL 2 Ep 2, over a decade ago, and there's not a real, confirmed word that we're ever getting more. Bethesda pushing Skyrim, and saying they've got two more original games coming out first while they haven't even started pre-production, feels an awful lot like Half Life's endgame. So I will wait, but I'm not holding my breath on this one.

And I'm not counting the MMO because I don't do MM Os. I might play online with stuff like Space Engineers or the occasional TF 2, but that's about it.

This is gonna get laughed at I know, but I think the Creation Club is a way around Sony's external assets rule. By putting the mod through a shortened Bethesda development cycle it's no longer an 'external asset', but a 'micro DLC'.

I could buy that, sort of, but considering free DLC exists, that idea doesn't really require them to have paid mods. Of course, I do agree with modders getting the chance to be paid for their work. I just don't agree with them shoehorning it all into a preexisting game like this. Start the next one off with this stuff right from day one, and it will be perfectly acceptable.

ETA: Though I still say if it's going to take years between games that their best bet is to just comb through mods, pick out the best modders, and give them license to do actual DLC expansion packs for the game. You could keep the game going fresh right until you want to put public focus on a shortly upcoming next installment that way.

Well it is a problem if you're like me and can't stand MMO's, but I guess I can subsists on Skyrim and the various Fallout's.

Both Fallout and the Elder Scrolls have overarching stories, though TES is definitely tighter on that. As fun as each game in the series is, we need more. The stories aren't finished.

[up]Sure, and while I do believe that Bethesda needs to improve in all the ways that people here are saying they need to improve I'm not super worried about the quality of the next Elder Scrolls game. I consider Skyrim a better RPG than Fallout 3 or Obsidian. And Fallout 4 is also quite enjoyable (IMO) so I quite sure then whenever they make the next Elder Scrolls game I'll likely like it.

My bigest concern when they ever get around too it, is where theya re going to go from being dragonborn.

If you just go right back to being normal it will feel like a downgrade, but they cant really just copy that either.

The Nerevarine became immortal, the Hero of Kvatch became the Deadric Prince Sheogorath, and now we have the very last Dragonborn in Nirn. Gonna be hard to make the next Elder Scrolls protagonist feel special canonically compared to that.

Steering back to FO 4, does anybody use the machinery in their settlements. Those fabricator machines are pretty nifty.

I usually only set up a couple settlements to house artillery and defenses and their crew and then ignore them.

The only machinery I regularly use is the Recycler from Manufacturing Extended. I wouldn't say it's faster than dropping junk and scrapping it through the workshop menu, but it's much more satisfying.

And I'm not sure how, but it got me the Mass Production achievement. Guess all those stacks of circuitry and concrete that came rolling down the conveyor belt counted as "created" items or something.
