I've never really bothered seeing the Super Mutants as human. Maybe they're people, sure, but they're not human.
It's been fun.Yeah me either to be honest.
There's gotta be a genetic point or something where you stop being a human and start being a different form of life entirely.
Oh really when?Well, if you looked at yourself in a mirror and all your skin and hair was falling out....
The question of whether Super Mutants are human also doesn't faze me largely because they tend to show up as little more than bullet sponges with rebar clubs. Whether they consider themselves human or not doesn't matter to me or my hunting rifle.
It's been fun.I mean, by that logic raiders aren't human either.
There are plenty of super mutants that don't just want to kill you. Especially in Fallout 2.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Yeah but Raiders are just malnourished/Mad Max enthusiasts.
Super Mutants got all whatevered.
And Ghouls got all Ghouled by the magic and unknowable powers of 1950s radiation.

Oh really when? Most raiders aren't also Hulk cosplayers who consider radiation the touch of a warm breeze, either. Putting aside the question of whether a gang like the Fiends, which apparently does little but murder people and binge drugs, can actually be called human, the Super Mutants are the product of targeted genetic tinkering, as far as I can be assed to understand them. They certainly seem to consider themselves something different than human (Nightkin as well).
I'm not trying to say they aren't people (in a lorewise sense; gamewise, see the above bullet sponge comment, which also applies to Legionnaires and so on) - but having to be human to be a person seems like a narrow definition.
It's been fun.Not being human shouldn't disqualify you from being considered worthy of the label "people". It all depends on your actions, character and decisions.
Eh, considering the word Humane is about behavior, not species, I tend to divorce the word human from the species homo sapien. Sure, I am a human. But my SPECIES is Homo Sapien. A dolphin who can think and feel and empathize with others is every bit as human as I am.
I FINALLY got Fallout 3 working.
And, as soon as I finish the prologue segment... crashing. Awful random crashing.
Bah.
Anyway, I'm aiming to make a perfect character and all of my guides recommend going to Rivet City as soon as I leave the Vault. However, damn, that's ALL the way on the other side of the map. Any advice for getting there and not dying?
Its about identity, not genetics. Its that someone identifies as human all their life, and like a switch, it's turned off. From a strictly scientific standpoint, yes, they might not be humans anymore, but the social response of the ghouls and some of the mutants, would not necessarily accept it.
Some from both groups might, but not all of them would.

The joy of what it exactly means to be human. Philosophy's not my strong suit but in the context of fallout a ghoul/super mutant is distinctive enough to probably qualify for a different name. That doesn't mean they should lose their personhood, however.
@inkdagger: Fallout scales random encounters to your level. Outside of a few nasty super mutants you'll be fine. For extra protection you could get your karma to evil (steal ALL THE THINGS!) then recruit jericho. He's a little squishy but he's good with his AK. The two of you could make the hike with zero issues.
Honestly though there's no real "right" way to play 3. Rushing rivet city opens up an important hub and some quests but you could completely ignore it and just do your own thing.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?I'm rushing Rivet City to get the Intelligence Bobble Head. After that, I'm playing the game naturally.
What I'm trying to do at the moment is just get waypoint markers on the way there, and periodically teleport back to Megaton to empty inventory and get more Stimpacks.
I ran into some Talon Company on the way there and they gave me issues. Then... my gram crashed again. Lost all my progress to Rivet City. : /

Ah, I forgot about the bobbleheads. So bloody broken.
You could try getting A Tale of Two Wastelands working. It requires FNV (and all the DLC for both games) but it seems to be more stable. To TW is a pain to install though and getting fallout 3 mods to work requires some black magic voodoo I haven't even attempted.
Or just quicksave. A lot.

Of course it doesn't mean they would lose their personhood - but I find it a little difficult that people just stop identifying as human. Maybe many of them would, but others would hold onto their old identity more.
Seriously, fuck the fallout 3 crashes. Want so badly to redo that game.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesMore like crashout 3 amiright?
"Now I think child obesity is hilarious, but this is just too far."Fallout New Controllas' for PS 3 can match it.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Fallout 4 – Why Details Matter
Details:
- That hellscape from the trailer is known as the Glowing Sea, and it's where the Boston nuke fell.
- Occasionally those rainstorms are radioactive due to radiation from the Glowing Sea blowing over.
No level cap and you can play long past the main story?
Interesting. What does that say about the main story?
Oh really when? Not much, I figure. They could have done that with 3 and New Vegas, they just for whatever reason chose not to. But it is a definite positive change, and an instance where they listened to their fans.
It's all good from where I'm standing. Great that they did this.
yeyThe only thing this seems to say is that any expansion will take place afer the main story is over, which isn't really a bad thing. There isn't really that much about playing after being done with the story for good other than dicking around and finishing every sidequest. Fallout 2 had dialogue acknowledging you as some glorious hero and some silly interactions but that game was pretty comedic in its storyline, not sure if it will work in something trying to be serious.
I don't have a problem, but I don't think it will matter in the long run other than expansions like I said before.

The DLC could be completely extraneous, unconnected to the main plot in any way. Either self-contained adventures in entirely new worldspaces or side-activities that don't impact the main story.
yey
Knowing Marcus, he probably doesn't consider himself a human because he doesn't want to bother arguing with people who would tell him he isn't one.
