There are black people in the Witcher-verse. And they aren't slaves. That being said the books fetishize them and the first game makes the only black person the drug addicted The Dragon.

And I've been hearing complains that this game's combat is too easy compared to the second.

I'm probably not going to get this game. Judging by the reviews, the Witcher 3 hasn't changed the sexism of the previous games. I'm not talking about the characters being sexist, I"m talking about the writers treating women as either fanservice props or victims.

[up]Interestingly, the Guardian (A VERY left wing British broadsheet) was incredibly complimentary and talked about how the women are treated rather well. And Geralt fills the female fanservice side. Also, the women are treated as humans, not plot items or ciphers - they have motives, don't orientate around the main character except if as antagonists and operate along their own agendas.

Yes, there's a bathhouse and brothels, but then again the Witcher verse doesn't present women as secondary. Not every female is there for titilation and not every man is a hideous raping thug.

In terms of the series, they have gotten better and more tasteful. I'd be the first to agree that its portrayal of its female characters was... incredibly problematic. You could argue it was following a almost Robert E Howard approach to pulp, but CD Projekt Red have done better with the material now.

Yes there's sex scenes, but we get Geralt nudity too, so it's more Go T than Mass Effect I think.

Indeed. Getting trading cards for banging women could be called misogynistic, but it has gotten a lot better.

I want to be the very best / Like no one ever was / To bang ladies is my real test / To maim monsters is my cause

(I will travel across the land / Searching far and wide / Each Monster to understand / The weakness that's inside) /

Triss, gotta hunt them all, it's you and me / I know it's my destiny / Ciri, oh, you're my best friend / In a world we must defend /

(Yennefer, a heart so true) / Our courage will pull us through / You teach me and I'll teach you / Witchering! gotta bang 'em all) /

Every challenge along the way / With courage I will face / I will battle every day / To claim my rightful place /

So Come with me, the time is right / There's no better team / Arm in arm we'll win the fight / It's always been our dream /

Dandelion, gotta bang them all it's you and me / I know it's my destiny / Zoltan, oh, you're my best friend / In a world we must defend /

(Witcher, a heart so true / Our courage will pull us through / You teach me and I'll teach you / Witcher! gotta catch 'em all) /

On a serious note... I wonder if we'll see Iorveth and Roche again. I miss those badasses.

Ive seen more commercials for this game in the last 8-ish hours than I have since like January.

Got a reservation on it. Better be worth my money or my friends (who convinced me to buy it) will get a one way trip to Asswhooping Town, population: Them. >=(

The games are pretty good.

I finally watched that video of Geralt fighting the she-vampire. You know you've played these games and are a fan when you see her bite him and think "He probably took something to poison vampires when they drank from him". And I was right! XD

I'm just hoping that Ciri being in this DOESN'T mean she'll take over half the damn game like she's done in several of the novels.

Well she is rather important to the plot. The Wild Hunt is after her, she's the one that can open portals and save humanity from the supposed ice-age that's approaching at some point?

Haven't played any of the other games, but this one looks awesome. Like GTA but in a "game of thrones"-esque world. ____________________________ google sniper review

Eh, not quite. The areas are wide-open but you can't just go around doing whatever you want.

Also you SHOULD play the other two games. They aren't vital to knowing what's going on but it'll help.

Heads-up to everyone. While the game is still good, and looks stunning, it is not the ground-breaking stuff you saw a while ago.

Ultimately, I think this whole Witcher "downgrade" thing is mishandled marketing, and there's a lot about the recent build toward The Witcher 3 that's kinda putting me off. However, I feel CD Projekt's heart is in the right place, and it wants to treat its customers with more respect than your more cynical "AAA" companies out there.

Every company can fuck up, the reason there is more uproar than ever is because people worhipped them.

Enhanced Edition to make the game look as good as that gameplay trailer perhaps?

If I'm buying this at all, I'm waiting for the Go TY edition in the Steam sales this winter. Maybe by that time I will have a graphics card that can run the bugger.

Thankfully I plan to play it on console and don't really care for graphics because I'm sure it'll look awesome either way.

According to a German website the game is very well optimized. I played the games for thier gameplay and story, and those parts are still good in the game. The art syle is still good and the game is very colorful.

Is the game looking as great as that trailer? No.

Is it worth it? Yes.

What if I want to wait for the Enchanced Edition? Sure, gotta admit it is a pretty smart idea.

Guess which game is on Origin. Go on, guess.

Yeah, you be right. This one.

https://www.origin.com/en-gb/store/buy/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt/pc-download/base-game/standard-edition

It's also on Uplay. But if you pre-bought it you got another game thrown in.

http://n4g.com/news/1718706/pre-purchase-the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-from-uplay-shop-and-receive-a-free-pc-game

It's also on Steam

http://store.steampowered.com/app/292030/ but that service isn't the same plague-riddled DRM stuff as the first two.

Am I naive to be surprised about this?

Though it has to be said you get the game plus the expansion pack for five pounds less on Origin than you do on Steam, so there's that, I suppose...

Not a huge spoiler but it's hilarious.

Apparently if you activate Nymphomanic mode and try to bang every option rather than stay loyal. After a fierce heat due to rivaly over a man, Triss and Yennefer play a massive prank on Geralt that gets him humiliated by the one who found him. And then they have a drink, and get along and leave, something like that...

Talk to Yennefer after that and she says "Geralt of Rivia is no longer a subject of interest to us", and Geralt be like "You and Triss havin' a good time? Thanks Yen, see ya later.

Not fond of how they've changed Alchemy. Remember how in the first two games concoctions were "Base component (Fat, Alcohol, etc) + number of substances (Vitriol, Rubeol, etc...)" and every ingredient has contained some substances so you could make the same potion out of multiple ingredient? Well that's gone now. Now potions/oils/bombs all have very specific ingredients. So alchemy becomes even more of an OCD loot everything that's not nailed down fest because if you're out even one petal of one flower, you might find there's a bunch of potions you can no longer make. Swallow for example, your old standby healing potion you've likely drank gallons of in every Witcher games before this, requires a drowner brain for each dose. So get ready to farm the ever loving shit out of drowners. And like 6 petals of this one specific type of flower.

Oh, you can get recipes to brew the specific alcohols each potions needs in case you don't want to buy them, but some of the even most basic alcohols like white gull require upwards of 6 different components.

So yeah, fuck Alchemy.

[up]Yeah, it's like they wanted to make it more simple in paper. But in execution it just became more tedious. Kinda ruins he whole "Geralt's very good at improvising and alchemy" thing.

Anyway, you probably want to know what I think of the game. I like it a lot. Certainly way more than I liked The Witcher 2. It’s huge and sprawling, and features a ton of interwoven, well-told narrative. There are bugs aplenty, some of which will arrive in the obligatory day-one patch, but do be warned – expect problems. Td there are all the usual odd physics glitches and wonkiness you may come to expect from these games. It’s a game of weird difficulty spikes (like its predecessors), and the horse controls like ass, but I can’t deny it’s a lot of fun regardless.

But again, Witcher 2 launch was worse, so there's that I guess.

It really annoy the shit out of me. Rest of the game is splendid so far (And they found someone who can write decent dialogue, unlike the first two). Though at least on controller, dodges are a bit too akward for my taste. But the alchemy system is COMPLETE garbage. Like, you-want-to-avoid-this-entire-aspect-of-the-game bad.

And the game keeps plugging in its goddamn alchemy system. Every new mission or monster is like "Dude, you, like, totally need to craft these oils and potions to beat these things." and the response if inevitably "Fuck you no. Your alchemy system is grindy as fuck and sucks."

[up]I really don't see how you can get simpler than the first two games, who had, for all their flaws, a wonderful system for alchemy "You need X number of each substances. Heres what each ingredient you have provide. Have fun." The trade off now is "Oh, I explicitly need this flower? Where the f*** do I find this?"
