I've recently began delving into the rich history of classical and instrumental music. I've enjoyed Beethoven and Bach's works, but I'm curious if there's any obscure or semi-obscure composers that deserve a listen.

On a somewhat related note, I'd appreciate any recommendations for Traditional/Folk/World/whatever lable you apply to "Midievil music influenced by ethnic and cultural traditions as there seems to be some overlap. For instance, it seems some works of Edvard Grieg have echos of Norwegian folk songs. Also, could anyone point to any places I can stream or listen to this kind of music? For a Public Domain tradition of music, it looks pretty tough to find. My apologies if I'm butchering some terms and or being unclear, I've only recently got into the genre.

I can't speak for world/folk music, but there is a classical discussion thread here if you're interested.

(As for your observation about Grieg, lots of 19th and 20th century composers worked their home countries' folk traditions into their music as part of a burgeoning tradition of nationalism in music - Bela Bartok even went up into the Hungarian mountains with a gramophone to record peasants singing traditional songs which he then incorporated into his music.)
