Discar: From the sounds of it they meant as in space thrust for satellites like you mentioned.

As for conversion. This website is rather handy That converts to about 553 foot lbs of force assuming I am reading nm as a newton meters correctly.

Here it is with the big list Handy for conversions

At this point the tests are just to confirm that it works 'at all. Probably going to be a couple more of those just because it's so fracking weird. If Russia and the ESA aren't already working on tests of their own they probably will be. I would assume further testing would focus both on why it works and and how much output can be be generated for how much input.

Well, it's been verified by a couple different independent groups, so this isn't going to be like the cold fusion debacle, where it turns out to be a bald-faced lie.

Yeah, but scientists tend to be small c conservatives by nature. Especially in a case like this where the current theory says it shouldn't work.

720 mN isn't enough for escape velocity (at least I don't think so; it's 11.2 kilometers per second, and I don't know how to convert the units), but it's enough for cheap maneuvering in space.
Just about any amount of thrust can get you to escape velocity once you're already in orbit. The issue is getting to orbit from the ground, which does require a large amount of thrust.

Ion drives already have similar properties: Low-thrust and therefore useless for launch, but high-efficiency and therefore nice to use once you're in space.

while 720 meganewtons isn't a whole lot, it's also sufficiently large that it can be observed with the naked eye. It's not like they're just moving a couple molecules around.
'mN' stands for millinewtons, not meganewtons. 720mN would be about the weight of a small lemon in your hand, if you were standing on the Earth's surface.

Regarding the Trek-like instrument panel, I hope designers aren't too slavishly following ST displays, including a not-insignificant fault. tongue

Interesting. I am wondering why they couldn't make the lenses on a 3d printer though? Lets see how those future tests go.

Dark Matter. That's the stuff that we can't detect in any way but we know it exists because it has to, right? Or was that Dark Energy?

Oh really when?

Dark matter is invisible matter that we can only detect through gravitational effect; it's what makes galaxies spin faster than they should if only their visible matter were present. Dark energy is based on similar underlying questions, but ultimately unrelated. It's a hypothetical form of energy that is contributing to the accelerating expansion of the universe, even though common sense always assumed it would be slowing down.
