I really wish people would note in their thread titles when things are just rumours.

This is an oddly substantiated rumour, but it is still just that. It's nothing concrete, and the title got my hopes up that it would be, and that's annoying.

As for the actual subject: I would greatly enjoy a Torment successor, and it looks like inXile could actually be serious about it.

I'll clarify.

inXile has the rights to the Torment name but not the Planescape license or setting.

Colin Mc Comb, who was Chris Avellone's second in writing PST and is writing Wasteland 2 with inXile, appears to be working on it.

Also important is Kevin Saunders, a former Obsidian employee and who was project director on Mask of the Betrayer, has now joined inXile as well.

Overall, writing and design is largely finished for Wasteland 2 and it seems like maybe Fargo is getting the writers to go into preproduction for a Torment successor rather than lay off all these talented designers. Where he'll get the funding for Torment 2 remains to be seen.

As is whether Chris Avellone or any other Obsidian writer will be working on the game in a collab with inXile similar to with WL 2. EDIT: [[www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-12-03-chris-avellone-blesses-inxiles-planescape-torment-successor Nope]] turns out Chris Avellone is too busy with Eternity but he's given his blessing for a Torment successor and has no problem with Colin Mc Comb and the gang taking up the mantle.

That's everything we know so far and Colin Mc Comb will clarify further on much of this in his next blog post.

Double posting cause I can.

Don't link to Escapist fake, they've got a lot of their facts wrong (mixing up Kevin Saunders with Colin Mc Comb for example).

The original source on all this news is RPG Codex who've done some pretty crazy sleuthing to find this out.

Trrripple Post!

RPS confirms with Fargo the new Torment title.

It'll be set in the Numenara setting (an upcoming tabletop title) and will be a successor to PST in terms of themes.

And a whole bunch of other cool info as well.

EDIT: Oh and if you want to nag any devs about questions. There's Colin McComb's formspring (who will likely be lead writer) and Kevin Saunders' (who will likely be project director).

So, another inXile Kickstarter then? Hmm. I really want to help but I would rather wait and see how Wasteland 2, which I funded last year (and contrary to my mean and evil Scots reputation) at well above the bare minimum level, turns out.
