Poor Image: Amazing Technicolor Population

Amazing Technicolor Population's image is poor for the following reasons.

  • There are a ton of distracting elements like a giant face in the background, a title and company logo, a robot dog, a science fiction setting, and a bunch of weapons. Images should be focused to show mainly the trope; in this image, the skin color is clearly not the focus.
  • The areas of oddly-colored skin exposed are very small, much smaller than many of the distracting elements.
  • Only two unique skin tones are obvious from the picture; another character has what looks like human skin-tone, although the caption says it's orange.
  • The Science Fiction setting that's clear from the image made me think of aliens. This trope is supposed to deal with people.
  • One of the characters has green hair, which could easily confuse people with another technicolor trope.

Random images that work instead. Feel free to suggest anything better, I wasn't able to find much.

  • GIS For ReBoot (Still has limited range, but the skin-tones are the focus of the image]]
  • GIS for Doug (Poor quality, but effectively demonstrates in modern setting. Still has hair color problem.)
  • Superego Webcomic (Demonstrates varied skin colors. Still has hair color problem.)

While I only really agree with one of the points for the current image being bad, the first two suggestions are better.

I like the first two suggestions as well...not sure which one I'd favor.

Doug seems like a good idea, but the quality of that image is really bad. How about this pic or just a crop of the left side of it?

please don't capitalize my handle. I just don't like it.

I think Reboot is a good example, but this pic is not. What about this one?

You have a few robots, and I'm not a fan of the black background, but you have blue- green and purple, plus a more mundane orange tone.

[up] I don't know how well that would work at wiki size.

[up][up] Crop it to the right of the girl carrying Doug?

Here are some suggestions from The Thief And The Cobbler. First one is on image links already, and second one shows same characters plus a fifth one with odd skin colour.

We've got a bunch of good suggestions...should we go ahead and crowner this or give it another day or two to hammer out options?

Doug and Superego don't look like fantasy skin colors to me, they look more like slight cartoony exaggerations of real skin tones (orange for light brown, pink for flushed white) to emphasize character appearance.

The first ReBoot suggestion and the two later suggestions from The Thief And The Cobbler are better.

Liking the second Thief and the Cobbler image.

Here's a better Superego one.

Bump.

I think we can do a crowner now, no new suggestions have been posted for a few days and we already have many decent ones to choose from.

[up] The trope seems to be focused on human or human-like characters, so I think we need to limit the options to those.

The crowner's hooked. I didn't include the big cast shot of Reboot because at wiki size, it has the same problems as the current pic. The rest look good at wiki size; my take on the big Doug pic crops just past the basketball girl's head.

See, I'd agree with you if they didn't include blue, green, and purple.

I was only talking about the first pic suggested for each. I've never watched/read those works.

I support the OP's Doug picture, or the Thief and the Cobbler one.

I don't like the Reboot one because of that darn mechanical dog messing it up (Also, needs more colorz). And yeah, the first Superego picture needs more unusual skin colors.

Everything else looks fine to me. I think the Thief and the Cobbler picture would be a bit better if the characters looked more human, but I like the aesthetics of the picture too much not to upvote it.

I'm actually quite surprised to see the Doug crowd picture doing so well - I thought it was one of the worst options. o_O The (very messy IMO) layout is such that you'll very probably see the fairly normal-coloured Doug first, and everyone is wearing so colourful clothing that it takes some moments to realise that some characters have odd skin colour. In all of the other options you see much faster what's going on in the picture.
