I am surprised you do not hear more about them if they are that high in demand. Sure it was not 100 dollars for "good" seats? Are these USD?
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackSorry, mild hyperbole. Tickets are apparently $78 each for good seats and $48 for lesser seats. ^_^ Still almost $100 total for me and my wife, even in the cheap seats...
And they've been around for a pretty long time, since 1990. We did a Stomp pastiche for marching bank at the University of Dayton back in 1999 or so.
I think I actually saw them, kind of. They were just some people who worked on an act where they used no instruments demonstrating how it was done, not an actual theatrical show. This is the first time I think I decided to look for more details on Stomp.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackFWIW, Stomp Out Loud, a DVD of one of the performances, is well worth seeing, even if you've seen the live show. They have some additional skits including a scene filmed in a flooded warehouse involving striking pipes suspended into the water and a live performance before an audience involving them playing on garbage drums with sweat socks in a rainstorm (I can't do it justice describing it in words, but it's good).
I got to attend a performance last night. Abso-freaking-lutely amazing! The choreography was excellent and fit wonderfully with the percussion, and the performers looked to be having a blast. What really surprised me was how many kids were attending. I think they had even more fun than the adults, being willing to laugh at some of the funnier tense bits as something seemed to go horribly wrong on-stage (in actuality, I only saw two bobbles in the entirety of the show, both involving tosses that didn't quite go to the target) or when the performers would suddenly stop and ratchet up tension through silence.
Sadly, the $100+ ticket price (my wife and I got them for free off of a friend of the family who couldn't attend) means we probably won't be able to attend many shows, but it was definitely a wonderful experience.
