I never found Vista "more unstable". However, what I didn't appreciate was the dumbing down of Windows Explorer with that goddamn breadcrumbs bar replacing the "up one folder" button (ironically, finally corrected in W8).

My problems with Vista were more having to tame it into not obfuscating key system settings, and keeping privacy as locked down as it was going to get. I had a lot of issues with it during typical use, gaming, and software development...but stability wasn't one of them.

Compare to my parents' XP, which is lucky to run for an hour at a time. Then again, my dad is fucking terrible about picking up viruses, and hasn't realized Norton is shit these days.

Tell him to get Malware Bytes

Also hopefully Windows 8.1 won't come with an update that ends up getting you System Service Exception B So Ds every five fucking seconds. Seriously that thing actually put me off updating my current windows 8. Nice one, Microsoft!

I'm quite confident in my shitposting you know

I got a new laptop. I hate windows 8 with a passion, but classic shell has helped.

Too lazy to downgrade and reinstall all the drivers though.

Yeah, if I can't get 7 preinstalled on my new computer, I'm totally ready to just reformat. Fuck 8 so hard.

Microsoft is basically taking the ball and going home if people don't want to conform to their new designs and standards.

Or it can be like that sunk cost fallacy kicking in where Microsoft figures "Damn it, we poured so much into this, no way in hell are we ditching it now!"

It just blows my mind how much "Sign up for a microsoft account!" shit there is. They're getting really greedy.

Microsoft lately really wishes it was Apple lately.

Microsoft seems to jump on whatever bandwagon that is popular in order to cash in on it.

  • MP 3 players/ipods were a big hit, so Microsoft comes up with the Zune.
  • The Wii made casual gaming popular, so Microsoft comes up with the Kinect and casual related games to steal Nintendo's thunder.
  • Tablet based computers are slowly becoming popular, so Microsoft creates an OS designed for said tablets, even if the user is on a desktop.

You could argue that their attempt to take over the living room with the Xbone wouldn't count too....if most modern TV's don't already do what like 75% of what Xbone promises....and without a subscription.

I actually have at least one beef with upgrading from 8.1 to 7, and that's that M$ is still getting money when you do that.

I play games on Linux every gorram day. Without WINE. I mean, sure, you won't get the big AAA crap, but I haven't seen much AAA stuff that I wanted to play in the first place lately.

I like windows for now. Linux is just has too much of a steep learning curve for me. But Microsoft is quickly making itself obslete.

  • Surface Rt tablets still won't sell even after a price cut.

  • The Xbox One was just a crap PC and sales for it may not look good.

  • Windows phone...not so much

  • Android and Iphone are killing in the market

At this rate windows surface and phone may sit next to palmOS ...

All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be on The First 48

Oh come on, it's gotten a lot easier for those of us whose mobos don't melt when you try to install it. I mean, it's not like you're trying to play Dorf Fort or something.

Also, you forgot the part where, after all the 180s, the Xbone is basically a more expensive, less powerful PS 4.

[up][up][up] Thasts the thing though, with windows I dont have to worry about what games work, they all do. tongue

I do have my desktop set to multi-boot though, since honestly besides that linux is better, laptop nah, it has the motherboard melting problem

It's got Crusader Kings II, Europa Universalis IV, and Team Fortress II. What more could I need? I mean, if I'm feeling masochistic (or sadistic, depending), I can also play Dorf Fort.

Also, by increasing Linux's market share, you're also incentivising the creation of more games for it.

Can Linux play .exes? I tried Linux a long time ago and nothing worked because any program with a .exe didn't work.

Command and Conquer, I dont know if I could own a computer that cant play that. D:

Like I said, I multi-boot, which is something the PC market seems to ingnore, the precent of OS distribution should be OVER 100.

Yes. Pretty much everything you can run is an .exe because that means that it's an executable file.

[up]Command And Conquer? My netbook can run that (and Alpha Centauri). Now, if you meant one of the later installments, I'm told that most work pretty well in WINE (especially C&C3)

Then why didn't my old linux OS work when I tried it once?

IIRC, it cuts off the build menu in red alert 3, and ummm I think something in CNC 3, unless that got fixed.

And my favriote is tib sun actualy, so as long as that worked.

Rated silver, but the ratings are all for old versions of WINE. Though apparently (at least for Mac) single player is fine, though multiplayer is a no go.

I did not know multiplayer still worked ay way. tongue
