This is not a complaint thread, although there is cause to complain. There are so many pimps in "edgy" fiction, that much is plain. Often, they are treated as funny. Often they are given respect. And I just don't get it; to me it doesn't make sense. Why are fancy clothes a Pimped Out Outfit? Why is a person who publicises a work here an Entry Pimp? Why are displays of tasteless decadence "pimp-tastic"? And why is it treated with awe rather than seen as lame?

And I don't just wonder about the trope, but about it's real-life roots. Is the fact that pimps dress like that a fact absolute? I'm kind of curious, and rather confused. Can you tell me the truth about it, girls and dudes?

P.S. Sorry for the poor rhyming. It's a thing I picked up. As a matter of fact, that series was par of what raised my awareness of racism enough to actually seek out books on the matter. And I've gotten a fair grasp of why N-Word Privileges exist, and why it's such a bad word. Like, amazingly bad, I never realized.

It has also triggered my curiosity about prositution, pimps, whores, and the way they're viewed by society and portrayed in pop-culture. And I'm very confused about the way they're portrayed in fiction and music. I wish to raise my consciousness and ameliorate my understanding of the topic. I mean, what is it, merely a case of Evil Is Cool?

Under the content limitations, I'm not sure this counts as a discussion of "sexual crimes", so I'll just submit it and hope that the moderation will see fit to at least let us give it a try.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
