As for movies though, it'd be best to animate it in my opinion; preferably with the maker of Animatrix doing it in the style used for Tekkonkinkreet.
Staying close to the source material would be nice. I haven't read the comic book but I'm pretty sure that Mina wasn't a vampire like she was in the movie.
