I like the idea of the Tanks For The Memories episode. It sounds hilarious, and I can totally picture RD doing that.
As for Luna, while I do find her a bit overrated, I do kind of like her. She was great in Luna Eclipsed. But after that, she's just been some boring cardboard cutout of Celestia, which is a shame. I do hope that we'll get to see the Adorkable and hammy aspects of Luna return in this season, preferably with the episode written by MA Larson or Amy Keating Rogers {Besides being arguably the best writers on the show, I also feel like they're the only ones who can properly write Luna, due to the former writing Luna Eclipsed and the latter writing the Journal Of The Two Sisters book}.
Boring cutout?
Sounds like someone hasn't been watching and paying attention to the other episodes closely in order to say that. The Sweetie Belle centric episode especially showing her regrets and counseling Sweetie on how jealousy of an older sister could be a dangerous thing and damaging to their relationship as family was as especially telling of her character and how much the renewed bond meant to her without it having to be blatantly and repeatedly shoved in our faces like some shows would do.
In other words despite the target demographic its nice that they keep in mind the age range when the simplicity of the lessons and plots (the silliness more aimed towards having children enjoy it instead of being infinite or immature) while having certain elements also be low key.
Nah, still going to go with boring cut-out. That's a nice little bit of stuff to include, but it's also perfectly predictable and exactly how Celestia would say it if the roles were reversed. She hasn't shown a scrap of real personality since Luna Eclipsed. That's still better than Celestia, though, who's only real character moment I can remember is the tea scene back in season one.
...You really should read the MLP comics if you don't like Luna's portrayal in the show. I highly recommend Micro-Series #10 and Friends Forever #7.
I think in general the Princesses just need an episode of development where they get something to do outside of being a Reasonable Authority Figure.
@CDRW: I see what you mean, although I do think it would lose the parallel of Luna's experiences with causing her own sister trouble. But yeah, other than that they haven't done much with her.
Reaction Image RepositoryEh. The nightmare arc was the last I read, and I wasn't wowed by it. After hearing how Celestia was portrayed in the mirror universe arc I don't have any desire whatsoever to continue reading them.
I personally think that Luna does have her differences in characterization - from what I can remember, while Celestia is usually fairly relaxed around her subjects, Luna is usually more formal. Luna says things in a way that I can't really imagine Celestia saying them. It might not be much, but it's something. And I think we're supposed to get a Luna episode, so maybe we'll see something developed along those lines.
Oh God! Natural light! The comics before Reflections are worth checking out. But afterwards, yeah, don't even bother {Aside from the Trixie ones}.

Eh, I really wouldn't even recommend those. They're not bad, just kinda eh. Then again I don't really care for Trixie and Babs. Doesn't help with the boring looking art. Neigh Anything and Big Mac's mini arc are very good and there's some good FF issues. The Luna micro was the best one out of all the micro series.

My Tumblr "If theirs one thing I'm good at, it's blowing" Jesse Cox 2013In general I think that FF comics tend to fare better because the format is closer to that of the show. The main line ones lean too hard on trying to be epic, and that's never been the show's strong point.
Reaction Image RepositoryYeah, in general I feel like the comics need to play to their strengths more and stop trying to turn it into an action series.
Reaction Image RepositoryEven when they do "action" stories they tend to be much more farcical then their show counter-parts.
I think that some of the writing staff at IDW like to treat Fi M as a kind of throw back to old style funny animals comics a la Captain Carrot or something like that.
Infamous outlaw Troubleshoes Clyde returns to terrorize the Appleoosa rodeo and the Cutie Mark Crusaders set out to bring him to justice and finally get their cutie marks.
Well, that's law and order in Equestria for you. "There's a notorious, no doubt dangerous outlaw terrorizing an innocent town; the clear individuals to neutralize him and bring him to justice are three small out of town children."

Cutie Mark Crusader bounty hunters! Yay!
There was some speculation awhile back based on episode description that Applebloom might get her mark in episode 4, but this suggests otherwise.
Sadly this attempt will be doomed because at best only Scootaloo's talent are anywhere even close to "law enforcement".
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Eh we'll see what happens. The Crusaders are entertaining enough that I honestly don't mind much.
I've rown to like them more and more, especially since they can get away with being less mature than the Mane Six, and have more potential characterization still ahead.
Cutie Mark Crusader Criminal Catchers, yay?
Maybe they'll get an aesop about how handling dangerous criminals is not for kids, especially when you're on personal terms with a princess. Because seriously, I wouldn't put it past the writers to subvert Adults Are Useless.
Reaction Image RepositoryAh don't get it, we caught the guy, why isn't he going to jail?
Applebloom, you can't just break into his house to gather evidence. None of this is admissible in court.
But Sweetie Belle got a warrant! See?
This is written in crayon.
They could wear rain boots...they could wear hiking boots...they could wear fireproof boots, which are superior...they might not wear boots either way...they should be ashamed.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.
