Only watched S1 and kinda have no inclination to watch season 2 given the negative buzz around it, but one thing that raised my eyebrow is how flippantly they mentioned that Japan is completely isolationist, sealed borders and all. It just seems strange that the show doesn't at all bat an eye at such a draconian step, it's just mentioned in passing as part of Makishima's evil scheme.

And to me that's also weird because Western culture is still being taught in schools and peculated around the internet (which, again, is completely isolated to Japan). Just didn't make much sense to me.

[up][up]It's weird that they're so blase about it, the heroes I mean.

[up]That could just be Sibyl system propaganda because, again, Japan is completely isolated from the outside world.

Yeah, okay. That was a decent enough ending. I certainly feel vindicated about Ms. Togane going behind the rest of Sybil's back.

On the other hand, I don't know how I feel about Sybil culling several of their members to keep their CC down. Seems like it would be hard to get the collective to agree to that, and harder make the right choices for who to cull.

But, well- generally, it didn't address all the issues I had with the season, but it addressed some of them and didn't add any new ones. One might be able to frame a complaint about Togane and Kamui taking each other out being too easy, but I'm inclined to forgive that, personally.

Man I saw Kamui's true face for a second and he really is Frankentstein's monster.

There's a movie? Meh. Anime movies are crap 99% of the time. Well, that's usually true for anime movies that were borne from manga, because the movie is non-canon. Psycho Pass doesn't have that problem, so the movie could be useful.

I'm not really sure where things can go from here story wise though. The only thing I think that should be explored more is the whole international relations aspect.

That is exactly what the movie is going to be about, apparently, so don't worry. And in this case, it's going to be written by the original writer of season 1, so we can be assured that it won't be a trainwreck.

Hooray, faith in humanity restored!

Can't say the same for the cast of Psycho-Pass though.

I'm going to be lulzy if there's a Commodore Perry reference in the movie.

Well, that was a season ending. Good to see it more or less confirmed the Toganes went behind Sibyl's back. Killing Akane's grandma is not their usual MO. Akane is really determined to keep as many people alive as possible. Even the really terrible people. Kamui was alright, but Makishima was a better villain overall. Sakuya was just crazy. Mika remains a completely terrible character who gets away with being a shithead. Sibyll soft confirms that Akane is CA, and they're uncertain of the future. Akane is definitely throwing her lot in with them, for better or worse.

Overall, much weaker than the first season. Some interesting ideas, and Akane was cool, but the execution was sloppy, new characters were either underdeveloped or annoying, and things often felt edgy for the sake of it. Hopefully the movie will be better.

At first I was slightly confused as to why Sybil was so...reasonable. And then I realized that

  • 'asshole Sybil' was simply Misako going on a(n) ego/power trip
  • being criminally asymptomatic does not necessarily equate to being evil/an asshole (case in point, Akane)
  • they purged the asshole
brains, leaving only the 'good' brains
Points to Akane for physically taking down and restraining Tougane.
Shion/whatever her name was 'missed her chance' when Saiga went back to isolation...did she want to sleep with him?
Yayoi declaring she won't forgive whoever leaked the info on Akane's grandmother to Tougane...while unknowingly sitting in front of the culprit, Mika

What was in your right hand is hope; And in another hand is something else to fade.

I considered that a character building moment for Mika. "Neither will I" indeed.

I agree that this season wasn't anywhere near as good as season one, but in my opinion, a very large percentage of that is because of the absence of Kougami. The "imagine what he would say" segments were some of Akane's best.

I'm still saddened that Sho really didn't get to do anything but be impressive at holo. It's like he was just added to add male moe to the series. Not that there's anything wrong with that, he's adowable.

[up] and [up]x2 I don't know the new Kaisei's smirk at how Akane made it possible for massacres via Collective Psycho Passes seems kinda sinister for a "good brain".

Despite being stupid and not nearly as good as S1, I still liked this season because:

  • They didn't fuck up Akane's character arc and actually managed to build on it.
  • Tougane in all his Creepy Awesome glory.
  • Sho Hinakawa.
  • It was still fun to watch, despite being vastly idiotic.

Not Aot S, but still decent at worst.

I feel like I suffered from pacing issues. The first series had two cours to be awesome, but the second only had 11 episodes.

[up] Yeah, given what we've seen the writer do with the second season of Ghost in the Shell, a second cour really would have helped solve the terrible character development issues this season had.

And I am glad to see that they had Misako going rogue, because the entire concept of this show was screwed otherwise.

So I guess the movie is about the other countries in the world, and exporting Sybil elsewhere. My guess is they have Kougami and Akane in conflict with each other, with Kougami defending individual freedom and Akane pulling for collective security Could be interesting, with Urobuchi writing again.

I'm disappointed, Tropers. Very disappointed

Jesus Fucking Christ at S2 episode 3 & 4. He just has a fucking stick. Just take him down. Probably just going to drop this idiotic series. Didn't they already figured out that the Sybil System is fucking sham in S1.
