The game is now called Pillars of Eternity.
Thread renamed per request.
The backgrounds. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Umbran Climax◊I vastly prefer the "placeholder" name they had.
I don't. Generic.
This looks amazing. I can't wait to play another Obsidian game.
The art direction is definitely magnificent, I really like how they've done the environments.
Has a little "next-gen Baldurs Gate" feel to it.
"Pillars of Eternity" is the more generic one.
Project: Eternity sounds like a sci fi thing. Also anything with "Eternity" is going to sound generic.
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story." TwitterI think you just like the name more because you heard it first and got used to it :P
But yeah, I agree that both names are rather generic because of "of Eternity" part :P Or just Eternity. I mean, you CAN do original title with that word, but... Yeaaaaaah its kinda hard
So what will the Godlike race will look like?
The description makes me think there'll be a huge variety in their appearance, hope that translates into a lot of character creation options. And some of the art◊ for them looks pretty odd.
Apparently it kind of works as a subrace, you choose your parent's race. And there's multiple "types" of Godlike to choose from. It's seemingly based on the elements, though there may be other types besides.

One image shows off the UI for the character sheet.◊
The image I linked is the character sheet for a Godlike character. It's much later in development, so I'm inclined to believe it's a better representation of how one might look.
Umbran Climax◊What's that other language there? It shows up in a couple places.
I assumed it was fictional terms.
Lots of interesting stuff in that image though. If that's just basic stats though, I wonder what they'll have under detailed stats.
That reputation thing looks really interesting. I haven't really been following the updates, though, so I'm guessing they've described it before?
I really cannot wait for this game.

"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."I love that UI. It's functionally well designed with all the necessary info all readily available and it looks really sweet aesthetically.
Anyone remember when the game is supposed to come out? I seem to remember something like mid this year.
I don't really like the look of that UI. I wish there was more visual differentiation between the different sections.
What do you mean? The entire middle section has a different is a different background color and distinct from the sidebar and and the records section on the right.
I mean that the "active effects" section, the "class and race" section and the "calculations behind the stats" section all have the same fonts and the same backgrounds, and nothing separating them except for a blank row. If you compare them with the "actual effects of the stats" section, which has it's own separate font color and is separated from the other sections by a clear line, and the experience section, which has a visual bar rather than just text, they all kinda look like one big list. If you're scrolling down all of this looking for a specific section, those two sections are alot easier to pick out merely by a glance than the others.
The records tab is even worse at this, being basically just a big list. I think the UI would benefit from taking all the non-reputation-datas and the dividing them into sections like "Time Datas" and "Combat Datas", and then seperating these sections like I've described previously.
I would also suggest having the titles of the sections (like "Active Effects", "<PLAYERNAME> Reputations" "Party Reputations", etc.) in a larger font than the rest of the text, so they stand out at a glance and allow you to find the section you're looking for much easier, which is the entire point of having section titles in the first place.
I don't think I've ever typed the word "section" so many times in one post before.

Colour-coding might help too.
I missed this. Finally, I have a game to look forward to in 2014.
Seems that some people are complaining that it's "real-time with pause" instead of turn-based, but I much prefer that system for games that feature several units during a battle.

For we shall slay evil with logic...Update #72: Featuring the expected ship date.
Also, an interview with US Gamer.
My favorite bit:
Wow, sounds like someone's finally writing a story with racism in it that isn't blatant "<KKK/Nazi allegory> is being super mean to <Native American/Black person allegory>".
The two paragraphs after that are really nice too.

Umbran Climax◊Loving all the art in this, and I'm actually glad about the Winter release date since it means I'll be on break for it.
Spear spider?
