Perpetual Editing Pause

I have been waiting literally all afternoon and evening to edit a main page and a playing with page of the same trope and a couple of random other pages but without fail, every time, I get Editing pauses. To be clear, I am not sitting there clicking away at the edit button - I'm waiting hours between attempts to edit. This has happened before, but each time only lasted a couple of hours so this time, I waited... and waited... and went to the grocery store... and came back... and waited... and tried a different browser... and deleted the cookie and cleared my cache and rebaked the cookie... and waited some more... and typed up the entire Playing With page contents in Word... and waited some more... and now its just getting ridiculous (and really frustrating) so I figured I'd better submit a bug report because from what I could find on the subject of Editing Pauses, this doesn't sound like the way it's supposed to work.

[up]What specifically do you mean? Does the editing page not load? Do you keep getting locked out from other editors?

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

[up]I get the standard Editing Pause page telling me to wait one minute before trying to edit another page and giving me the link back to the page I'm trying to edit.

Oh, yeah, the new troper bottleneck. What you're describing does look like it's glitching.

This thing was installed some time before as a anti-mass-vandalism measure. Dunno why it's preferable to a semi-protection system though.

[up]I realize why its been done but at this point, it's going on 24 hours now so something is definitely up.

You have an edit history. What you describe would prevent you from editing. Is it still occurring?

[up]Yes. It's been happening for the last 24 hours. Before that, I was able to make a few edits to one trope over the course of a few days.

I finally got through a couple times but it's still hit or miss - it was ten minutes between the first two edits but an hour before I could do the third.

My apologies for the necro, but despite its age this thread was only on the second page and I'm running into the exact same problem. I've been attempting to edit the following page:

Fairy Dance Of Death

It's been almost 48 hours since my last edit and I am still consistently getting the "Editing Pause" page. I've gone anywhere from five minutes to eighteen hours in between attempts.

I appreciate the intent of this feature and your reluctance to discuss its exact mechanism for fear of it being exploited, but frankly the sheer excessiveness, randomness and opaqueness of it has made my attempts to contribute an exercise in frustration more than anything else. If I didn't have a personal interest in the accuracy of this particular page, I probably would've given up already and gone off to do something that didn't make me feel like I was being trolled by the software.

Is this security measure bugged? And if this is intended behavior, what does one have to do in order to stop being a "new" editor who has to deal with it?

(ETA: when I posted this, it blanked the message saying that new accounts can't post "external" links. The link was to this very wiki.)
