As Deboss said, make sure to look for uses of the wick with the {{ }} markup, as it can have spacing and other formatting that you can't do with a straight Wiki Word.

It's because the wick you're looking for is wiki-worded as {{reptil|esAreAbhorrent}}. It's not a ghost wick.

This is a pretty minor question, but what does it mean if a wick cannot be found (with ctrl+F or equivalent) in an existing article, but the wick is listed on a Related To page? And if a null edit doesn't make it go away?
