Our Next Feature Presentation: The Stuff (10/12)

Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Now, this movie doesn't have a trailer, it's that bad. However, the first ten minutes should suffice. Night Of Terror is a plotless slog. How plotless? 30 minutes out of the 72 that this movie offers are driving to the Virginia Mountain Country. I'm going to spoil what the rest of those 42 minutes are-the main characters meet a ghost and bury a skull made out of styrofoam. That's it.

EDIT: I realized that it's actually Night Of Horror but who cares?

I think I might be praying for the production values of Ratboy Genius before this is over.

You know, with the 30-40 minutes we'd have once this movie reaches its end before 9:00, it may be worth using that extra time to debate over which CG animation is worse/creepier. Perhaps we can watch a bit of Ratboy and see what we can compare.

Alright, time to pray to the deity of your choosing and get ready for Lion Joshua to lead you into the "Promised Land". But, first, we got a pre-show loaded with more Limbo of the Lost cutscenes, the latest found footage from Everything is Terrible, Cr1tikal, new Lowtax and Shmorky, and even MORE oddball religious nonsense.

You know where we at! http://synchtube.6irc.net/r/TroperCoven

More information on the Maradonia "saga", which is even less of a saga than Candy Crush.

It's a incredibly stupid time waster that makes money with extensive micro transactions that people keep buying because they're fucking retarded.

Awww, I really was hoping that would've been another abysmal movie or story or something. Oh well. Still, that Gloria Tesch shit is unbelievable. I need more of it!

I despise the microtransactions business model and hope it crashes big time.

The Gloria Tesch stuff is amazing. Her parents are paying to promote her books and make her movies, it looks like. And if you enter her name into Google and then hit M, I did that just to search "gloria tesch movie", but "gloria tesch model" showed up as the search suggestion - "movie" wasn't even on the list. She's a MODEL? I wonder if she's doing that to pay for her own movie.

I love how she begged for money to make her movie, to the tune of $20,000, which really isn't that much, and she should have that money easily if she truly is the bestselling author that promo video claimed she is. But obviously she isn't.

And I have to say, I found far more enjoyment from the Ratboy Genius from our goofy Joshua movie. Both were incompetent, but Ratboy's dada nature was much more entertaining.

As for tonight's movie, it looks like something I won't be able to relate to or understand. I was a high school student once, but I never understood the weirdly specific social labyrinth of school. It's foreign to me. Most of you will likely get the jokes and understand the cheesiness of the movie, but bad movies about social things are just things I can't understand enough to riff on or enjoy.

Tonight, we'll have an 80's teen romp by the name of High School USA with a fair share of familiar names and faces comprising the ensemble cast.

Also, this has more poorly executed, more stock shit DVD box art up on IMDb than Impulse

[up]Rest assured, NOBODY really relates to much of anything in a Hollywood portrayal of high school.

Yeah, but I'm saying that people will be riffing by comparing the movie to their real-life experiences, whereas it all kinda passed me by without knowing what was going on.

I don't have too many fond memories of high school. The students in movies are weird to me already because they usually had friends.

One of the happiest days of my life was when I worked out that nobody IRL made friends as easily as the various Persona series' protagonists.

I've still never had an trouble understanding it or any other "high school" setting.

Unless you happen to be extraverted and socially successful.

Which is basically the main thing people even remember from high school: the social experience.

Being highly introverted, diagnosed with Asperger's at a young age, unwilling to budge with most if not all change, scrawny, highly opinionated, emotionally sensitive, and a host of other neuroses did not help matters.

Of course, while I was miserable and mostly in solitude for the first few years, others were out illegally drinking, snorting pixie sticks, and having unprotected sex.

War is God.

I honestly never got the appeal of that kind of lifestyle. Though I might be a bit biased as I was never really there in high school. I mean, of course I was there, but I feel like I kind of just drifted, trying to keep out of others ways. I'm sure some people had fun in high school, but I was just not really developed as a person at that point.

I don't think high school was too terrible for me. When I look back on it, I just like to think of all the silly things I got away with. For example, there was this one AP English class where we spent about three months on The Scarlet Letter. Which would be nice if the AP exams actually involved that book at all. So when I took the AP exams, I'd find an excuse to describe something confusing and/or frustrating so I could use similes such as, "It's like taking an AP English class where your teacher doesn't teach you anything because all you ever talk about is The Scarlet Letter and when you sit down to take the test, all you can do is guess and hope for the best."

In another AP English class with more of a focus on literature (by virtue of us actually reading more than one book), my teacher had the philosophy that as long as you can justify your interpretations of a story, it's not wrong. So, naturally, I'd spend every class coming up with the most outlandish interpretations of a story ever like "This whole story is a metaphor for eating a hamburger," and I'd support it with details from the story (e.g., "he mentions a crunching sound when he stepped on leaves; this obviously represents the crunching sound from the leaves of lettuce"). So, yeah, high school English classes were fun if you didn't take them seriously.

I took AP Language and AP Lit seriously, but I admit that I had a bit of fun with creative writing. Namely, writing a 1000 word essay about how ''See Spot Run" is a metaphor for an adult running away from the traumas of his childhood.

There was also that one time I spent a whole day pretending to be a Velociraptor, so I guess High School wasn't all that bad.

The only thing I don't like about a lot of English classes is that they force people to read.

Now, I don't mean that in a "oh wow, how dare they make me read" kind of way, I just mean that it's pointless to get some people to even open a book for five minutes much less read an entire novel.

Some people are just stupid too impatient to use their brains to actually like, you know, put a story together themselves and use their imaginations instead of having information force-fed to them in exposition and other pointless "telling".
