I understand that The Joys of Torturing Mooks is supposed to be a sub-trope of Video Game Cruelty Potential, but the crossover between the examples is a little bit extreme.

You need to write the trope name as a Wiki Word in the thread title for the link to work.

How much of a crossover between examples is there?

The tropes seem to be different. The Joys of Torturing Mooks is about defeating enemies in gratuitiously cruel ways, while Video Game Cruelty Potential is about tormenting innocent characters. Or at least, that's how it should be.

[up]Do the examples reflect that, or does any work need to be done regarding them?

[up] There is a bit of misuse in The Joys of Torturing Mooks where the trope is used to describe torturing helpless victims. There is more overlap in Video Game Curelty Potential with examples of killing enemies. I suggest that we add a disclaimer to VGCP explaining that examples where the people being tormented are enemies that are attacking you should go on TJOTM.

Mentioning the subtrope in the supertrope is a good idea, and in fact that's already done. Maybe bold it up so people miss it less?

If we also move around the examples so they're in the trope that fits best, would the problem be solved, and do we agree that it's the best solution?

[up] That is exactly what I think we should do.

I think that would be considered regular maintenance, so it's something that can be done without voting on some action. We're not changing the definition of either trope, just moving some examples that got in the wrong place.

I'd say that if there are examples of potential torture for enemies and friendlies alike, it goes into Video Game Cruelty Potential, but if it's only about the enemies, it's The Joys of Torturing Mooks.
