i hate to bring down the incredible energy that's been in this thread so far (as is deserved) but oh my god the new super mario bros. wii videos are so goddamn depressing to watch

All they've done in the NSMB vids are complain and say it's "souless".

Yeah, while most of the videos are fun to watch, others are hit and miss. The New Super Mario Bros videos can be summed up as "This is good, but it's soulless and back in my day..." I do think they have legit points, but they present them like Grandpa complaining about kids on his lawn would, which makes them slightly harder to take seriously IMO.

Also, the Secret of Mana videos get kinda obnoxious. I think it comes from the fact that they don't seem to be having fun, so they resort to being obnoxious to have something someone might find entertaining in the videos.

I gotta say, if the NSMBW and, according to some people, Secret of Mana videos are hard to like because they're not having fun, can you imagine what Conker's Bad Fur Day must've been like for them to have refused to post it?

Actually, they state repeatedly in New Super Mario Bros that they are having fun, but they hate the game because of how "soulless" it is.

But yeah, Conker's Bad Fur Day would probably be impossible to sit through based on the comments about it in their other videos.

Their latest Mario view is by far my least favorite. And the dumpage of Skyward Sword at the end really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Yeah the most recent Mario video, for me at least, they stopped sounding like grumpy old men and started sounding like hipsters.

I think part of what bugs me is that they talk about how Skyward Sword sucks and how the Ocarina of Time remake is better 1.right after they praised other games (like Luigi's Mansion and Rez) for trying to be new and innovative, even if they didn't like them, and 2.they didn't really explain why Skyward Sword was bad. If they gave a reason other than "it's bad because I don't like it" I could respect their opinions. Especially after they explained (read: beat into our heads) why they didn't like this game. It kinda set up some expectations I guess.

I know Jon posted on Facebook that he disliked the game, but I don't recall if he posted why there or not, but I feel like he at least said why. And I'm certain this is the first time he's made it obvious in a video, which, for a lot of people, is going to be the first time they hear it, so in the video it's just random bashing.

Also, I don't know if Jon knows what "innovative" means, because based on the way he worded things, it sounded like he was claiming Fez was innovative because it was 8-bit.

In other more positive news, the intro jingle for Game Grumps VS is great. And the episode wasn't that bad either.

I liked when they started the Fox VS Fox match by just lasering each other. I didn't know you could do that.

Get hit with the laser gun while shooting the laser gun and not flinch. Note how they just blast each other for a few seconds without any flinching.

That's how Fox's laser works in Melee/Brawl. It can fire rapidly but doesn't cause the opponent to flinch.

Personally, I prefer the airthis one.

I think the biggest problem about their NSMBWii review is that Jon says a lot of things that aren't actually true. To anyone who played the game, it's obvious that he doesn't fully know what he's talking about and it makes it a lot harder to take him seriously.

Probably my biggest complaint is his "shocking revelation" that NSMBWii has conservative screen usage. Ignoring the fact that levels actually DO use a good amount of space and Jon Tron's revelation just happened at the right time, if the game wasn't zoomed out, four players using Yoshis or Propellors would make the game significantly crowded. His revelation only makes it obvious that he doesn't know what type of game NSMBWii was trying to be, so he's criticizing it on the wrong merits.

Yeah, I kinda wonder if their opinions will change, because I saw Brisulph co-play that game with Rudicus and they found it increasingly tough.

Granted, they were going for all the Star Coins and were often inebriated during that LP.

Do me a favor and post in this thread if any of the NSMBW videos become more watchable, or if at least they mention the somewhat negative comments on the videos (doubtful, because I'm pretty sure they record in massive chunks, like entire worlds in advance).

They don't record TOO far in advance. I don't think they'll get to World 4 without a skip in time... though considering they're doing the bare minimum for their playthrough, it's actually possible.

I forgot, why does Jon not want Torchic to evolve?
