I have a song that I heard on the radio at least 15 years ago, it would be perfect for this article. It is about a guy who is trying to call the train station to get tickets or something and is faced with an automatic operator. I vaguely recall that it might have been played live for the radio station. Here are the lyrics as well as I remember:
(I don't remember the opening bit.)
Press 1 if you're going to Washington.
Press 2 if you're going to Kalamazoo.
Press 3 if you're going to Kankeekee.
Press 4 if you wanna hear more.
So I pressed 4 and this is what I heard
Press 5 if you are still alive.
Press 6 once you hear two clicks.
Press 7 and if nothings happens press 8 and wait.
So I pressed 8 and this is what I heard
Press 9 if you are still on the line.
Press 10 if you wanna start all over again.
Press 11, press 12, then press 13 if you wanna stop talkin' to this phone machine!
So pressed 13 and this is what I heard.
Press 1 if you're going to Washington.
Press 2 if you're going to Kalamazoo.
Press 3 if you're going to Kankeekee.
Press 4 if you wanna hear more.
