How is this a problem? You should've expected this, being a remake of a PC-only FPS.
(Then again, I'm fed up with the modern FPS market chasing consoles and treating the PC like an afterthought with poor ports.)
That said, this isn't the sort of game that would play badly on a console or handheld. (Heck, I'd sure like to know if there are any portable ports of Rise Of The Triad that aren't on iOS...)

It wouldn't be that hard to put on consoles. Not all of us have up-to-date computers.

Too many polygons, too many sound channels, lighting is too good, frame rate is too high, game entities are actual 3D. RUINED FOREVER. /straw
That said, if this is really the same Apogee then there's hope for it being a nice throwback.

Floating collectables and jump-pads in a modern FPS? IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL! The only thing they could possibly announce at Quakecon that would make me more enthusiastic is a new Commander Keen.

Free DLC planned, no DRM? I'm gonna have to hurry up and buy a new compy...
EDIT: Destructoid goes hands-on at QuakeCon. Holiday easter eggs confirmed, possibility of console release mentioned. Expansion based on the original's shareware levels planned. Uncharted-inspired contextual dialogue. New multiplayer mode in the works. Boss fights will apparently be more complex than in the original.
For those who haven't figured it out yet I'm watching this shit like a hawk and will be posting as many new articles as I can get away with.

Quake style shooting mechanics and item collection can make any setting AWESOME. Not like SPESS MEHREENS are any less generic than G Is by this point anyway.

And, if I'm honest, I'd rather have a WWII shooter at this point. It'd be a refreshing change from all the modern military stuff.
