Is the American-adaptations-of-weird-Japanese-horror-movies trend still going on at all?
I've seen the Japanese one. Watched some scenes from the American one and didn't really like it. Like the TV scene which was so masterful in Ringu... actually, The Ring starts it off really well, but then there's this stupid teleport jump thing, which is really meh, I don't even know why did they do that... The Japanese one seems to be a bit more subtle in comparison.
Though maybe one has to watch the whole "The Ring" to see it properly. I don't know. I've seen "Ringu" and I liked it.
ERROR: Signature not loadedI think both the original and the American remake are equally good. The original is very creepy with its claustrophobic atmosphere and references to nensha. The drama is quite engaging too. The remake on the other hand, has a very melancholic air about it (due to the cinematography) and you can feel the characters' reluctance. I find myself watching the remake more because it's the first one I saw (and because I like Naomi Watts) but the original is definitely amazing.
That said, I really don't like any of the sequels. They just seem awfully convoluted and messy. I did enjoy the prequel though.
Yes, Sadako vs Kayako is going to be a real movie. It actually has me going back and watching the old movies again. So far I've gotten through:
Ringu: Classic, creepy film. Not one with a whole lot more to say about it.
Rasen: Bland and boring, and poor adaptation of Koji Suzuki's novel, to boot.
Ringu 2: Um, what the hell just happened? XD

Watch SymphogearThere it is.
Oh man.
I'm here because I literally just found out that Sadako vs. Kayako exists. And it's a pretty new movie too since it came out back in June.
It's like the Supernatural Cat Fight version of Freddy Vs Jason....but with a J Horror twist.
Hope this gets subbed. In the meantime, I'm checking out the fight.
One Strip! One Strip!Paramount has a third installment in the American Rings franchise coming.
Rings on a plane bitches!
See, my brother told me about this movie, and in trying to learn about it, I found out about Sadako Vs Kayako (which I caught some youtube videos of, and I gotta say, the big fight wasn't much of a fight).
One Strip! One Strip!
I'm surprised there's no discussion here.
