Aside from some other game collage, I'm not sure how we'd pic this.
Would they look better vertically?
Check out my fanfiction!Maybe. We can't really increase the resolution, though, as the gameboy's resolution was only 160x144.
Belief or disbelief rests with you.Vertical's fine since the article's fairly long.
Vertical looks good. Resolution is fine.
That was my thought.
In some cases, it is possible to double (or some other natural multiplier) the resolution, since that means each pixel will be represented by four, and no pixels will be cut or modified. Generally better for small sprites rather than screenshots, though.

Check out my fanfiction! If you exactly double the res, with no (or "nearest neighbor") resampling, the pixels are maintained. May be too tall though.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. That's not bad either.
Sonic is clearer. The only thing I can say about it is that it's aesthetically inconsistent, since the first two images are box art, while the last is a title screen. The cartridge helps a little, though.

Check out my fanfiction!I prefer the Sonic image.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight! Can we get a shot of the cartridge that's a bit clearer about it being a cartridge placed into a cartridge?
Actually, bringing up the boxart/title screen inconsistency and asking for me to make it clearer that it's a cartridge inside a cartridge gives me an idea... make it three title screens, and pair each one with its respective cartridge. (Reason being that S3&K, as a whole, doesn't have a boxart, while the two separate parts do, but all three do have distinct title screens/cartridge setups.) I'll probably look into it when I get back home, can't do it at work obviously.

Moon◊OK, we have a problem. This trope is actually two tropes. The first is the one I'm illustrating, and the second is the one the sonic image is illustrating. Neither is really a good illustration of the other.
Belief or disbelief rests with you.Article ends:
"There are three sections to this article: Examples of one game in multiple concurrent versions, examples of one story being split over multiple games, and examples of this phenomenon outside of games and gaming media."
I don't think an image needs to depict more than one.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. That's pretty good...the only tweak I'd suggest is if you could possibly get a better shot of the combined cartridges.
Looks good.
Thumbs up on the offset, good call.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Looks good to me.
Bump; one or two more votes for the last Sonic pic and we can run with it.

Nominations for replacement images:
This trope shares its image with Pokemon Red And Blue. Also, even though Pokemon is probably the best example of this, the image seems to contain lots of Fan Myopia, in my honest opinion.
