Except it did do something, you just didn't notice it. There's a difference!
/me puts foot in mouth
But now I can tell my children and grandchildren about the one of the most embarrassing video game experiences I've never had.
Assuming I don't force the memory out of my head.
On the plus side, I'm better than Sonic, Knuckles or Amy. That's counts for something, right?
...right?

But not Tails?
Moon◊Sh-shut up.

I'm starting to warm up to the game a little more. I find that it's only as bad as you are at it in some cases.
Also, I just managed to beat Reala completely by accident. Yay for bumbling around cluelessly!
Anyway, that's Elliot and Claris's levels done... now what?
I'm assuming you've fought Wizeman twice by now* , so get all As for a little bonus ending, I think. It isn't much, but it's something.
After that, score attack, and, well, um, that's all there is to the game. I suppose you can mess with the Nightopians (they're like Chao, but not!), but I never figured that out.
Moon◊Twin seeds was done right? As legend goes, that level actually made Yuji Naka cry.
, No. I just finished all three levels for each kid, and... nothing happened. I'm assuming I need to get A-Rank on all the levels or something before I can beat the game.
If you have Ds or Es yeah you need to do them over.
I bet you got a poor grade on Stick canyon and Soft museum huh? Those were hard for me as a kid.
I think it may have been those two.
Does doing poorly on bosses affect your overall rank?
Bosses have a multiplier on your rank. IIRC the worst you can get (other than running out of time and losing entirely) is a 1.0x, while the best is a 2.0x, and it's based on how much time you have left on the clock when the final blow is struck. The final ranking takes that fact into account, so if you get an A for all four parts of a stage, but only get a 1.0x multiplier, your grade could fall down to a C or so.
But yeah, get Cs at least. Once a kid has all three Cs, you unlock Twin Seeds - the final stage of the game - for that character. Functionally it's the same as either kid, but you do need to beat it as both to see the full ending.
Moon◊I have a, uh, question for the regarding the Frozen bell boss.
-ahem-
-inhale-
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?
Sorry, but in the Saturn version, after a run through every stage, the bosses from there on are randomly-chosen... so I'm not sure which boss you're talking about. Was it Gulpo (the big fish)? I know in the sampler on the Saturn, it was Puffy (spherical rabbit thing), but I'm pretty sure that's not the case in the full game...
Moon◊It's the one where there's a roudn platform in the middle of the arena, and a circle of monkeys are hanging/sittign on rings at teh top/bottom.
I think that's Clawz. Not one I fought very often, but this video shows him being taken care of very promptly.
Moon◊So I just completed Elliot's side and Christmas NiGHTs.
Overall, a decent game, but not as great as everyone says IMO. Good presentation, good music, good graphics, but I feel the gameplay is a bit archaic. Also, it still really annoys me how the game makes you play through the level again should you die on a boss.
I got this game last night and jeez, no wonder Yuji Naka was brought to tears during development. Just a wonderful game that's crazy addictive and fun, not to mention really soulful and charming. I played like 5 hours straight in the middle of the night and earlier today for around 4 hours straight as well. It's just so magical and embodies that classic Sega soul only their games could have.
The dynamic music system is pretty cool although admittedly I wish there was an easy way to get it back to the default themes. Wizeman is a bit of an Anti-Climax Boss but one time I did almost lose to him and only had 5 seconds left. I don't remember Gulpo being so finicky with his hurtboxes though, seems like that fight gives me more trouble than it should simply because Ni GHTS misses him for no reason despite me aiming right at him. In terms of difficulty the bosses go Clawz > Reala > Puffy > Gillwing > Gulpo > Wizeman > Jackal. Christmas Ni GHTS although little more than a glorified demo is pretty cute and I love Clair/Elliot's santa gear. There's some pretty neat extras and secrets in the game and I never knew about the Nightopian/Mepian system when I was little, that's actually really neat.
Mystic Forest and Snow Bell are my favorite levels. Of course, no discussion about Ni GHTS would be complete without mention of its incredible, even by SEGA standards, soundtrack. It's probably one of my favorite soundtracks in gaming and has some really beautiful pieces. While the credits theme is a tad cheesy it's still pretty nice and really fits with the game. Man even now Ni GHTS is still one of a kind and one of Sega's masterpieces.
I have yet to find a game as delightful as this (Journey being a close second). I don't think games are made to be this colorful or whimsical anymore, bar a few rhythm and indie games.

My personal favorite is from this level:

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).I think that and Stick Canyon are the hardest levels in the game. They're both really cool but if you don't know the layout and orbs you're not getting a passing grade. When I was little i couldn't beat Twin Seeds.
