The Amonkhet artbook mentioned that Nicol already knew Ugin is back.

My plot wish list: Jace getting back his memories(and skills) from Vryn and meeting Kruphix. Nissa meeting Kruphix and Nahiri. More Lilliana being Lilliana. Chandra and Giddeon getting more varied characterisation. Ral/Jace shiptease. Ugin vs Nicol Bolas round two.

Speaking of Vryn, the comparison Jace unknowingly draws between Alhammarret and Bolas makes me wonder if the former was yet another unidentified agent of the latter.

Official spoilers are out on the mothership. Some of the tribal support cards are quite insane.

An interesting review of the Amonkhet story, from someone who's usually pretty critical of the new stuff.

It is this faith, paired with a clarity of perception that eschews false hope, that allows her to become a god-touched leader of the survivors of Amonkhet. Notably, Samut does not simply believe that she can, through her personal power, defeat The Scorpion God. The victory Samut wins comes from her people working together as a team, multiple followers avenging multiple gods, every blow contributing in a small way to a tactical plan to best a far more powerful foe. What a contrast to Gideon and Jace, pinning their hopes on some idea of justice that will carry the day! It is ultimately mortals working in concert with their last living god to defeat this great evil.

Now is faith justified.

Yesterday's previews (Cats);
  • Making Magic: Cats, featuring;
    • Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist
    • Arabho, Roar of the World
  • Surprise Cats, featuring;
    • Seht's Tiger
    • Stalking Leonin

Today's Previews (Dragons);
Wow, there's a lot of lore blasts from the past here. I'll probably be getting the Dragon deck. I have a Commander deck led by Ojutai, Soul of Winter, that this deck is sure to have a few useful things for. I might even make a Wasitora Commander deck, because Cat Dragon.

It's a Commander set. It doesn't happen on any set plane or in any set timeframe. This allows them to include references to planes that are very popular with a niche group but poll too badly in overall market research to get a full return, or which are otherwise impossible to return to.

A good parallel here was the New Phyrexian cards in the enemy-colour and four-colour Commander sets. We're probably not going back to New Phyrexia any time soon, according to Mark Rosewater, but a couple of cards in a supplemental set is fine.

You are dazzled by my array of very legal documents.

Another solid example would be Mirri. She has a card in these previews, but she's been dead since Exodus. But why let being a corpse for centuries get in the way of a good Commander deck?

[up] Ah yes, Mirri. One of the unluckiest characters in Magic the Gathering. And that's saying something.

Today's preview article features the Vampire deck.

  • Vampirism 101, featuring;
    • Edgar Markov
    • Curse of Vitality
    • Curse of Verbosity
    • Curse of Disturbance
    • Curse of Opulence
    • Curse of Bounty
    • Teferi's Protection

I love the art on the Curse cycle. The man in them looks like just the kind of guy who's in need of a good cursing, especially in Vitality and Bounty. I think I'll call him "Curse Bro".

I just realised something about Ramos, Dragon Engine: It's a universal commander. WUBRG identity, totally colourless cost. You can stick it at the front of any deck.

Ah, so he's a planeswalker. The ability to go "fuck this shit, I'm out" and escape to another universe does explain how he survived some of these.

He seems pretty Unluckily Lucky. Unlucky enough to get in those situations, but lucky enough to survive. Though yeah, being able to planeswalk out of frying pans (and into fires) explains how he isn't dead yet.

Wonder if Curse Bro will get a card of his own.
