So there are Vedalken on Kaladesh?

I suppose that makes sense. Wherever you find artifice in large quantities, the Vedalken will be there. They're kinda the patron species of artifice.

Or, another way to look at it, any world with Vedalken will inevitably develop a profound propensity for artifice. Because it's their thing.

Just like how you'll always see elves with well-tended forests or goblins with hilariously self-destructive antics.

Kaladesh looks gorgeous. The magic story from today is adorable, as well. Perhaps a bit too adorable.

EDIT: Elves have also been confirmed as present on Kaladesh. There's a picture on there that may be either a dwarf or a short human.

Nissa is a particularly nature-y variety of elf.

I am calling it - that dangerous rogue threat is Phyrexians, or worse, Tezzeret working with Phyrexians.

For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, Homesick. Kaladesh has officially begun.

Bit disappointed that Nissa's going instead of Gideon. I've been a big fan of the Gideon/Chandra ship forever, but Chandra/Nissa is looking more and more like it's becoming official.

That's because they're going for the Power Of Friendship.

I don't know. Chandra and Nissa's behavior in this chapter was strikingly reminiscent of a socially-awkward teenager attempting to bumble around into asking another socially-awkward teenager on a date or something. I mean, that's not what was happening, but it was certainly coded that way. Right down to Chandra panicking and fleeing because she's too embarrassed and Nissa's disappointed, "What did I do wrong? Why did she leave without asking me?" reaction.

They're like 14-year-olds trying to figure out these weird hormonal feelings. It's awkward and hilarious and kinda endearing in a cute kids sorta way.

It's not even clear what Chandra was seeking from Nissa. She wanted Nissa to something something Nissa's passive temperament calms Chandra's rage and makes her a better person. Was she just looking for emotional intimacy? Or did she want Nissa to get inside her mind again and fill the gaps in her temperament that she's missing? To be the patience she doesn't have and sooth Chandra's fire with her calm? Because that's a metaphor if I ever heard one.

Did he? That's interesting.

I don't think there'd be any question how to read their interaction this chapter if Chandra or Nissa was male. And Magic is definitely not a setting where LGBT representation is unheard of.

Between Jace/Liliana and Gideon/Chandra, I was expecting Nissa to be the Gatewatch member needing to look outside the organization for a pairing. But it might actually be Gideon who's the odd man out.

I agree that if they were male and female this interaction wouldn't be read as ambiguous at all - I mean...

...is not what one would call subtle.

There are a lot of ways this could pan out, but I do hope they explicitly acknowledge mutual attraction however it does.

Names for spring and summer block announced: Amonkhet, Egypt-themed world ruled by Nicol Bolas and Hour of Devastation, where presumably something bad happens.

Along with this, next year will have Archenemy: Nicol Bolas.

Hope we get some Egyptian god cards. We need a totally-not-Anubis to go with totally-not-Hades.

Time for innovation. I like the frequency of story content.

So, when do we start seeing cards, anyway?

Probably 11 am Friday at PAX. If it is like other years it wont be streamed live, but wizards tweets out the spoiled cards as they happen.

So, regarding that new chapter, I can see why Saheeli would be concerned. What Rashmi has created here is a device that interacts with the Blind Eternities! Which makes all the sense, because of course organic matter is vaporized. That flower was never going to be teleported properly. The slightest touch of the Blind Eternities is lethal to anything without a Planeswalker spark. This teleporter is an automated Planeswalking device.

But it also makes sense that inorganic matter would be able to travel. We see that all the time. We see it in the clothes that Planeswalkers wear. In Thassa's stolen bident. In the Chain Veil. The Blind Eternities are immediately lethal to any living being but inorganic materials have always passed through just fine.

I'm worried about the Consulate getting their hands on this technology, though. I wonder how far a leap it would be from a device that transports matter through the Blind Eternities to portals like the one that once connected Phyrexia to Dominaria.

Well. I'm going to have a hard time being quite as excited about Kaladesh, now, great as it looks. Egypt plane. Mmmmm...

Regarding gods, the "Trials of the Five Gods" are mentioned in the set description, so... that seems likely. And I feel like it'd be an obvious mistake not to include them. I guess it's more a question of how they'll actually achieve god-ness. Are they going to bring back enchantment creatures, or do they want to keep that stuff on Theros?

Although clothing is largely composed of organic matter, so maybe "living" is a better distinction.

Kaladesh spoilers have started.

I am now imagining a crew driving a vehicle to drive an even bigger vehicle....

Well, this promises to be interesting. We've got Vehicles and Pilots, we have Dwarves which is super rare, and "Aetherborn" creatures. Also energy counters which, like poison counters, go on you instead of your permanents. This is interesting.

Oh, and Fabricate's a thing, which seems okay. Decent way to get artifact creature tokens for things like Crewing your vehicles or anything that cares about having lots of artifacts, creatures, or both. It's a serviceable utility effect, not a splashy OMG effect.

They're also changing the wording for things that give you tokens, I see. That's a very welcome change.
