I believe this could be an important link. The images are beautiful!
I wanna see em MOVE, dammit! I cannot wait!
Wonderful style...
I treat all living things equally. That is to say, I eat all living thingsIs this 2D or CGI? Because it looks so great, I can't even tell.
Now I want summer to end!

Looking for some stories? Some behind the scenes process video has come up with animation from the final product. Looks gorgeous.
Yet another reason why going to see Wreck-It Ralph at the movies will be an AWESOME experience!
And Wreck-It Ralph is going to make everyone joke, "Is he a grown-up Paperboy?"
Heh, possibly. Though considering Paperman is a homage to 1950s type cartoons, it would be more logical to say that Paperboy could be its main characters' kid!
So has anyone seen this with WIR?
Looking for some stories?People seem to love it in the Wi R thread.
I saw it. I LOVED it. Simple, very pretty, beautiful imagery, funny moments surprisingly.
Something about it reminds me of Penny Arcade though.
Is it selfish that I'm happy as we pass the setting sun?it was so cute. I loved the paper airplanes coming to life.
Say, shouldn't the short have its own page now?
Just saw Wreck-it Ralph today, and I actually had no idea this would be before it. I have to say, I was wonderfully surprised by it! Almost enjoyed it more than the full movie. almost.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.A beautiful piece of work. 2D animation augmented by CGI is an area that hasn't seen nearly as much experimentation as it should. I'd love to see a film in this style, and can't wait to see what they can come up with. What do you all think a suitable subject for such a film might be?
I saw it and liked it (especially the animation, of course), but I did not enjoy it more than Wreck It Ralph! And in my head, the characters are Stalker Wizard and Miss Moe Moe.
Anything at all!
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.Like a lot of folks, I saw this when seeing Wreck it Ralph yesterday. It was an adorable short.
Was it cel-shaded CGI? Or really good 2D, or some crazy mix?
You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!Cell shaded 3D. there was a bit of 2D flash help, from what I can see in the breakdown, but mostly 3D.
To be honest... I kinda wouldn't mind seeing THIS expanded into a whole film. I mean, probably not in it's current incarnation - it works very well as a short, and I doubt expanding it in and of itself would do anything but weaken it. But I honestly wouldn't mind something that comes down to essentially an animated romcom. Set in 1950's-pr-so Manahttan.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. With magic paper airplanes.
Essentially an enhanced, quality-programmed Toon Filter in CG.
This film was gorgeous. Gorgeous I tell you. And heartwarming as well.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Ok, I went and started the page myself. I haven't seen the actual short yet, though, so I'll let the rest of you insert the tropes for now. ;)
What are you waiting for? Go!

Loved the animation, specifically the shots where the guy was getting dragged by the paper airplanes. I believe there was one shot where they were making him go up the stairs and the camera was moving behind him, there was such a great sense of gravity.
The story was nice but to be honest it didn't particularly leave a huge impression on me. At least nowhere near as much as the animation.
The short was a bit too.... short... to leave an impression on me, yes. But I felt so moved watching it!
Interviewer: The hand of the animator. That’s the thing, unfortunately, missing in some of today’s CG films. Are you developing any other shorts or maybe planning a feature in this style?
John Kahrs: Every time I show the film, the lights come up, and the first question is “Are you working on a feature that looks like this?” I think we are going to move toward that direction – but we’re not quite there yet. I’ve been asked by John and Ed [Catmull] to pursue the technique. Take it to the next level. And I’ll let you guess what the next level is.
Paperman. A Disney animated short film playing in front of Wreck It Ralph this Fall.
