Booky, you can't exactly have a sandwich without bread, y'know. tongue

I don't put anything on them, but I always eat them with tomato soup.

I'm with Exelixi. Just bread and cheese in the sandwich, but tomato or tomato-rice soup along with it.

Oh yeah. Especially if you put in a splash of milk or some basil.

Nice to see you again, Maddy!

There is a brand of cheese spread sold over here in funny spelling land, called "Philadelphia", and they have recently launched a variety of said cheese spread blended, and I kid you not, with chocolate.

S'actually quite nice.

Anyway, bought some nice mild coloured cheddar, some nice Hovis wholemeal bread and that leaves me to get the Branston.

Yum.

Best tomato soup is made by Heinz. Cream of Tomato. Add a dash of milk for taste and it makes excellent dunking liquid for yer grilled cheese sanvitch.

I usually make it myself, but Campbell's will do in a pinch.

Open tin, put contents in microwave dish, cover, leaving a small vent and nuke for a couple of minutes depending on the power rating of your microwave oven. Simples. It has to be or else I couldn't cook it. I burn water.

Philadelphia cheese with chocolate? Interesting. That might work out to be kind of like a chocolate cheesecake...

[up] Yep, Philadelphia is a brand of cream cheese, which is somewhat similar to mascarpone. I can see it going well with chocolate.

Tomato soup: Homemade if I'm going for real flavor. Campbell's Tomato Rice if I'm looking for Take-me-back-to-when-I-was-kid-and-everything-was-simpler Comfort Food.

I like tomato soup with a grilled cheese, I can see having a tomato in it, but it's weird. Ketchup? No.

Does anybody call the sandwich something different? I've encountered exactly one person who calls them "cheese toasties".
