Moody does have a fitting nickname already, that being Mad Eye. When it comes down to it, that is kind of the most logical nickname one can give him.

Also...

Truths About Severus Snape: Favoritism

"You think I favored the Slytherin students, and that is why I treated them the way I did?" Severus Snape, once Headmaster and now dead guy, asked.

"Well, yes. I mean, you took points off of people for breathing, but never took any from Slytherin that I can remember. That's pretty obvious favoritism to me," one of the Headmasters, fuck cares what his name was, replied.

"That is simply untrue. The truth of the matter is so simple that it does not surprise me none of you was able to grasp it until I explained it in detail," Snape said, rolling his eyes. "I hate Slytherin House. With every fiber of my being. I hate each and every little dunderhead that came from it."

"You know you were a Slytherin, right?" another headmaster asked.

"I can assure you that no one in this world hates Severus Snape more than Severus Snape does," Snape said, dryly.

"Anyway, that still doesn't explain the favoritism bit," another one added.

"It's truly simple. By my actions, I made sure that all of House Slytherin would be hated outside of this school, and that former Slytherin would be hurt immensely because of their association to the house. Professional Quidditch Teams don't even give tryouts to Slytherins, after all, everyone knows that they only ever win by cheating. There hasn't been a Slytherin potions master in nearly five years, I made sure of that. After all, everyone knows that Slytherins only get good grades in potions because I favor them. There haven't been Slytherin aurors, either. Nobody trusts them to uphold the law. After all, everyone knows that Slytherins were coddled in Hogwarts and never learned to follow the rules. I made sure that they wouldn't settle for menial jobs to make a living, either, by feeding their egos and their sense of entitlement. Which, as an aside, also helped me make their friendships tenuous and their prospects of marriage look dim, as they're all insufferable pricks that can only barely stand each other when they have a common enemy, a result of being spoiled both in their homes and here as well."

"Wow. That's a pretty in depth revenge," a headmaster stated, sounding rather impressed.

"I try," Snape said dryly.

That rather depends on whether you find his eye unsettling. I suspect other veterans of something like the first war against Voldemort, or just veteran Aurors in general, have a higher tolerance for such things.

Tonks bet the character that Kingsley would win a duel.

...Tonks neglected to point out that Kingsley was probably the best person to come out of Auror training in the last two decades.

But the vibe people give off isn't a reliable barometer of whether they can fuck you up with Potter magic. Stunty, chirpy Flitwick was a dueling champion. Technicolor-haired, clumsy Tonks is an Auror. Awkward, bumbling Neville is Neville.

If you're Genre Savvy, then you know that the most unique looking characters are the most dangerous ones anyway. The rank and file that are tall, imposing and threatening? Pushovers.

That wimpy little guy with a beard? Death incarnate.

I am really glad someone made a timeline for this series.

Although I find the sequence of events awkward for my purposes. The Triwizard Tournament ends too early compared to the Azkaban breakout, so I'll have to introduce other magical law enforcement later on.

Speaking about awkward events, I just had this thought of Nanoha, Fate, Hayate and Yuuno attending Hogwarts and being annoyed that people call Malfoy 'ferret'.

Chrono is having the time of his life though.

And it will be glorious. The wizarding world will live to regret inviting the Face of Evil into their borders. especially the Hogwarts female population.

...Also I had a really weird thought before. Hayate attempting to seduce Nanoha and Fate into a threesome, to the song: It's Not Gay if it's in a Threeway.

Chrono is having the time of his life though.

Chrono is ironically written to be the male half of a Fleur romance considering one of the things that ultimately attracted her to Charlie was his immunity to to the Veela allure. He'd never put up with that happening to him, and he has the knowledge to find a way around it.

Zafira would probably be immune for different reasons.

Second?

Chrono is written into the male half of a romance with Fleur, but only by Fleur herself, and the odd shipper on deck.

Because Chrono is on a mission, and he ain't gonna let something stupid like romance affect his mission performance.

Coming up as we are on the anniversary of V-E Day, I think I can spot the skeletal outline of a story to be told, if we look into the history of the war, all hinging around an unanswered historical question.

  • Potterverse event: Sometime prior to 1943: a race between Dumbledore and Grindelwald to secure the allegiance of something from its home in the North African desert. (An ifreet, or something similar: something supernatural, not merely magical; a angel of flame, a djinni: O, for a muse of fire.) Dumbledore wins.
  • Real-life event: July 1943: Operation Gomorrah, the strategic bombing of Hamburg. For the first and nearly the last time in the air campaign, the bombing generates a devastating firestorm—a self-sustaining tornadic conflagration so intense that postwar experts rate it as more damaging than the incendiary effects of the Nagasaki A-bomb. Future air raids fail to generate this effect in other German cities, to the air planners' frustration.
    • Potterverse event: ...because this is the first night the ifreet is released to rampage in the fires of Hamburg, experimentally, and probably at great cost to the deployers. (Mosquitos and broomsticks are probably involved too.) The cost needed to generate such a firestorm, probably measured in human lives, and the results are so terrible that Dumbledore forbids its future use, despite the pleading of the Air Ministry. Future bombing raids will have to be done without magical assistance; non-magical firestorms are generated only twice more in the European Theatre, at Kassel and Darmstadt.

Culmination point in February 1945.

  • Potterverse event: Dumbledore's spies pinpoint where Grindelwald will be on the night of 13/14 February, 1945: a city called Dresden, in the city's equivalent of Diagon Alley.
  • Real-life event: air planners debate the importance of hitting Dresden. On the one hand it is an important transportation hub supporting the German defence, which was cracked by the Soviet advance in Poland; on the other hand, there are more important targets available.
  • Potterverse event: Dumbledore throws his support behind the bombing of Dresden: if Grindelwald is killed, the magical war could be ended then and there; plus, he wouldn't need to confront Grindelwald in person. For the second time in the war, for the first time with full knowledge of the effects, he authorizes an invocation of the ifreet.
  • Real-life event: firebombing of Dresden levels much of the city with a tremendous firestorm. The bombers are targeted not on the industrial sectors of the city—which recover from the bombing with surprising rapidity—but on the Altmarkt, the Old Town.
    • Potterverse event: for the second time in the war, the devil dances in the streets. Grindelwald, however, escapes, meaning that all the costs needed to invoke the ifreet and all the people who are killed by it, are for nothing.

Epilogue: Grindelwald's political power is broken by the defeat and the Soviet soldiers pouring over the Oder River; at the same time, Dumbledore can no longer find any excuses for not facing his nemesis and old friend. The climactic confrontation happens in April 1945 and the conclusion is foregone. As for the ifreet, nobody quite knows. It is only certain that the rather half-hearted efforts Dumbledore made to hide artefacts like the Sorceror's Stone or the Deathly Hallows, are as nothing compared to what he did to make sure nobody would ever find and use the ifreet's power again.

Things to be worked out for this story:

  • Exactly what were the links between Dumbledore and the mundane British government for the war; similar, Grindelwald and the Germans (Martin Bormann was almost certainly the link there.)
  • Exact nature of the supernatural agency responsible for Hamburg and Dresden, and how it ties into Potterverse magic. (Closer to deep magic of the Sorceror's Stone/Deathly Hallows/horcuxes and the like than the everyday wand-and-robe type.)
    • Possible link to the fire of London 1666: I don't see Diagon Alley escaping that one unscathed.
  • Just what kind of ungentlemanly warfare was required for Dumbledore to get his hands on the ifreet. A certain Mr. Potter was probably involved here.

Charlie Stross's cheerful, optimistic predictions for 2017, part one of three.

I am... unsure of the usage of real life events in a fic.

Should prove challenging to tie things together when considering the fact that magic exists now, particularly considering you have things going very intertwined.

Intertwined... joined together...

You know something that annoys me?

A lot, and I do mean a lot, of crappy powertrip fics usually have Harry taking Voldemort's horcrux as a pointless power boost, often getting his knowledge and power without 'side effects'. Of course, the side effects are unnoticeable because in those fics it's very common for the protagonist to be far more evil than Voldemort ever was, but that's beside the point.

Something that I actually thought about is actually writing a fic in which Harry is actually as the prophecy describes, and equal to Voldemort with the power he knows not.

So instead of being Average Joe 9000, Harry is instead a megalomaniac, hell bent on conquering the world, much like Voldemort, except with the added benefit of the power Voldemort knows not: sanity. Essentially, he's evil, but not an insane sociopath. Harry wants to take over the world, yeah, but that's because he genuinelly thinks he can do better than the ones currently running it. And he's willing to use all sorts of underhanded, sneaky and rather, ahem, unsavory methods to achieve his goals 'cause, again, evil. Manipulation in all its shapes and forms, basically. Harry doesn't have the power Voldemort has, 'cause Voldemort has fifty years of magical knowledge on Harry, but Harry has the power that trumps any amount of brute force.

Mostly, Harry would basically go to Hogwarts and build a power base, starting by gathering a few of the outcast kids (like Hermione, Neville and later on Luna) and setting himself up as their savior from loneliness, then grabbing a few of the others, the ones who have obvious weaknesses he can exploit (like Ron's low self esteem, for instance), while creating situations which allow him to manipulate others. For instance, he'd discreetly use Parvati and Padma to spread rumors about Draco that would steadily drop his standing in Slytherin and culminate in making him a social outcast, then Harry would offer him a hand in friendship and Draco would be indebted and ready to accept Harry, putting him on a pedestal that allows Harry to subtly influence and change Draco. Of course, that's just an example and a very simplified version of it, but Harry would basically do that with each and everyone of his 'friends', basically breaking them so he can reform them in such a way they are absolutely loyal to him.

Of course, the only reason Harry even bothers with doing that is Draco's money. The only reason he took the others is also similarly easy to explain. Hermione is brilliant, Neville is from an old family and has got very real herbology talent, Luna's father owns a Newspaper, Ron's entire family is composed of very talented people all around, and so on. Whether he cares for them or not is irrelevant, but he does because he's not a sociopath, just evil.

By the time he came out of Hogwarts, he'd have a standing organization that, while not on the same level of influence as, say, the Death Eaters at their height, is in a much better position by virtue of not being composed of barely restrained animals whose leashes are held by a madman. Given that Harry would hunt Death Eater children to add to his group so he could have some influence and people in the Death Eater camp to balance his own influence in the Light camp, he'd eventually be playing both sides against each other.

Shortly after, he'd be ready to sweep in, end the fighting and take over in the chaos.

Of course, because he's got plenty of smart people around him to help guide him in the right direction AND he's much too pragmatic to run anything other than a meritocracy, Harry pushes Britain forward. Being smart, he cooperates with the muggle government to subtly empower Muggle Britain, giving them the push they need to go back to being the most powerful nation in the world. Of course, because the magical governments everywhere else are incredibly isolationist and haven't had the civil war followed by revolution that Britain had, they are very slow to notice that the muggles are aided by magic, and by the time they do, it's far too late, since Britain starts producing Magitek and empowering everything with magical creature materials, which tips the scales heavily in their favor.

A hundred or so years down the line, Harry, at some point having discovered a way to make himself immortal without becoming as disfigured as Voldemort, marries into the imperial line and becomes Emperor, shortly before he finishes conquering the world. At this point, he's accumulated enough magical artifacts and deciphered so many magical secrets that people start hailing him as a god. A God Emperor, even...

Yes, this entire fic was written as an excuse to have the God Emperor of Mankind in a Harry Potter fic without making it a crossover.
